Hey guys, it has been a really long time since I have been on here. College… Has taken over my life. Yes, it is a good thing. I love this site and all of you on here but it gets distracting very quick. I am taking a study break and wanted to pass a few things by yall…First off – We have a club here at Rolla that is up and running with 40+ members… The only problem we have at the moment is that the school will not recognize us by this coming spring as they promised. It is crucial that we get recognized as soon as we can so we can participate in the FLW collegiate fishing tournaments. If you have ANY input for the team, please feel free to give us some. We need every little bit of advice we can get.Secondly – Sponsorships… We are in search of them and have a few at the moment… Fishstanley.com being one of them. If you have any suggestions for sponsorships, please let us know about these as well. Finally… I will give you a little bit of an update about what has been going on in my life… It has been darn near a year since I have been on the board. My last few months of high school were some of the best I have experienced. Earlier in the year I made the decision to commit to continuing my education at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri. So, as expected, my last summer before college was hectic… I was trying to get as much stuff done as I could. I got the BassCat out a few times and brought her down to her birthplace in Mountain Home to have some fun on Bull Shoals. She never upsets me! I worked most of the summer as an installer of windows, siding, gutters, soffet, facsia, and roofing. I was upset to hear, when I went down to school, that there was not a fishing team… I wondered what I was going to do with my life if I couldnt fish. Fishing is how I calm myself down. WELL… I was at a social event… WINK WINK… and ran into a person that unfor… i mean he had on a Ranger bass boats shirt. We started talking and hit it off; he proceeded to tell me that he and his friend were in the process of getting a fishing club recognized. I found my in. We remained in touch ever since that day and got to know eachother more… We are now pretty darn good friends. This friend is going on a co-op next semester and over the summer… So what that means… if it means anything at all… is that I am now Vice President of the club. By the way, I am studying mechanical engineering here at MST. I am loving every second of school, but it is one of the toughest things I have ever done in my life. If you guys have any questions at all or just want to comment, feel free. Take Care, Dan YonanDan Yonan. ———————————————————

Youngblood,I grew up in St Louis, Missouri and graduated from University of Missouri Rolla (now MST) in 1990 as electrical engineer. I chose to work for what I consider the best full service, A&E firm in the industry with WHQ in Kansas City, MO. Similar to BCB we are 100% employee owned. (Theres an idea for BCB and their loyal family ….hint hint ) I have been an employee owner and with the firm since graduation. I just recently moved to MD and now lead project development in MidAtlantic VA/MD/DC for Combined Heat and Power facilities and District Energy systems. Our focus is providing Clean, Secure Energy (Thermal and Power) for universities, industrial, institutional, Government campuses and now redevelopment and mixed use developments. Keep on the books as it WILL be one of the hardest things you do in your life but will be worth it. You might consider networking or joining fraternity, which contrary to general perception, they can provide excellent support and study system at MST since everyone is focused on the holy grail- graduation. I am partial to Delta Tau Delta.Just this year I found the Collegiate tournaments on cable TV and really wished they had that back when I was at MST. That said, with all the travel and need to make time for studies I really question whether or not you can balance tournament fishing and studies at MST. I recall the MST athletes limited curriculum to 12 hours and went year round but others found ways to take full curriculum and really, really study. At a minimum, I certainly think a Fishing Club to enjoy all the great water in your neck of the woods would be doable for the weekend get-a-way.For sponsorship, I personally would focus on the university, MST (BCB) alumni and companies that recruit from one of the best engineering schools in the nation/world. Of course, many of these companies actually make the products used in the fishing industry. (fiberglass chemicals, trucks, motors, electronics, depth finders, computers, fuels, engineering, environmental firms, BPS)I might also see what we can do as my brother (fraternal and family) graduated from there and he is also part of BCB family in OK. Any sponsorship at MST would be linked to maintaining the grades (ie…no B or higher = no sponsorship). I also think the Chancellor would find the Collegiate tour a very attractive marketing outlet for MST given the schools location. In your spare time on the weekend, you might even draft up your BCB ride in your vision for the MST Boat WRAP and send to them for consideration with a marketing pitch. BCB might also be interested as they would be very interested in seeing engineer/anglers graduate.Good luck with FINALS WEEK and dont pull an all nighter….and yes I owned a (used) bass boat after graduation before I had a new car.Send me your coordinates and we can keep in touch especially if you fish the Potomac. Also, my brother and I know a thing a two about the MO and OK lakes.Graduate. And definitely get work experience/coop prior to graduation (a power plant next to a reservoir works really well ). MDB
