Currently I am using Lowrance units at both bow and console. I have a chance to purchase a Humminbird Side Imaging unit but I am concerned that by using different technologies they will interfere with each other. Has anyone used a Lowrance and a Humminbird on the same boat and if so what your results? Will they cause interference and not be as effective?Thanks.Tony2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
Tony – I had Lowrance x28/x27 on console/bow, and additional a 797 bird on the console on my PIV I just sold. Now 99% of the time I was ONLY using the 797 for Side Imaging. The few times I used the 2D sonar, I dont recall having any issues, nor did I ever have any interference / issues with my Lowrance units. My 797 ducer was mounted on my jackplate, and my x28 ducer was through hull. So in my experience, I dont think youll have any interference. As far as usability, I LOVED it. I had my x28 set with split 2D / Map, and the 797 on SI. I never had to toggle screens, which was VERY nice. The only downfall in my setup is my 797 was too small to split screens, so I would manually transfer created waypoints from the 797 to my x28 (which was networked to my x27). However I got very quick at that, and it became a 10 second thing. I was actually a little nervous on going to a single unit in my new boat because of 1) realestate and 2) having to switch screens. I got a 1197 (took care of the realestate issue), and there are 3 quick view buttons, which seems like it will take care of the need to switch screens.
I have two LMS-520cs and a HB 798ciSI and have no problems with interference.
I run and HDS 8 on the bow and a 997 at the console with no issues.britt
I was running a 332c (lowrance) and an HB 898si at my console and I DID experience “cross talk”… all of the sudden one graph or the other (normally the HB for some reason) would start flashing odd depths like 80ft, then 2ft etc.My 332c ducer was shoot thru and my 898 ducer was mounted on the Jack Plate.Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. It helps to have as much info as you can before making a purchase this size and it seems that for the most part there will be no trouble. Another question I have is can you upgrade the software on the 997 to make it the equivalent to the 998? I currently am running an LMS 520C at both bow and console and I will mount this at the console and really only use it for the down imaging and side imaging. And if you can upgrade the software, do you have to upgrade anything else, such as the transducer? Thanks again for the help,Tony2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
The transducer is good. If the 997 is not updated you may not have DI. If you are buying it new it should have all the updates. The updates are always free from HB and can be downloaded and installed without much trouble at all.britt
Depends on the frequency. If the frequencies on the transducers are the same, there will be interference (cross-talk). I have had 4 transducers going at the same time and had no issues. I had the same unit (same frequencies) at the bow and console and would get cross-talk if I ran them together. Here is a great article about sonar cross-talk. While you are at it, root around the site. There is a ton of information about everything sonar. Good luck.http://vexilar.com/pages/…ort_tips/article_018.phpBill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
Thanks for the help guys. I bought the 997SI yesterday. It is used but I will still have the full 1 year warranty. Price was right so it made sense…much better than new @ $1999. Now I just have to learn how to use the darn thing…but now this gives me another excuse to get on the water.2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
