My trailer lights are not working correctly. They all come on with the running lights, but every light blinks with either turn signal, and all lights go out when I hit the brakes. Ive looked over the wiring, and everything seems intact. Any suggestions. Kent Kent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
I HATE trailer wiring problems. If my memory serves me correctly, which it has been known to fail me from time to time, this has been addressed before. Even though you checked the wires and all seemed OK, I believe the guys who responded before all said it was a grounding issue and they ended up being correct. You might want to check the ground wire at the tongue of the trailer and be for darned sure it is getting good contact. Good luck, and Im sure the smarter guys will be along shortly with better ideas.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
I did check that, and it seemed to be tight. I may just take it off and clean it up really good, then test again. I thought that would be the suggestion, but was hoping that I was missing something else. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
DPT, did you have the trailer hooked up on the ball of hitch.? On my older pantera, it would do that until I used the hitch as the ground. Not sure if that will work for you. pant 2 Bob
The GROUND wire on either the truck or the boat is not connected to the frame and thus the battery ground is not functioning. You need to ground those pigtails to the truck and trailer frame. The flickering is from the truck loosing a ground and things just go CrAzY!
Kent, please post your findings after you resolve your problem. I have the exact same problem and have isolated it to my truck. I am replacing the ball tomorrow to see if thats it, and if not, then Ill start tracing the harness for a loose ground. Jerry
The ball may help, though wiring the ground pin to your harness for the trailer and grounding it to the vehicle frame, as well as making sure it is grounded to the trailer frame is best. The ball will only help till it gets a light rust glaze on it or the coupler.
Thought I had posted this a while back…BCB s is the first fix you need! Then:.Check the wiring near the spare tire…where it comes out of the “Y” on the trailer …there are 2 washers welded on the frame that the wires pass through…after some time it will chaff the wires and cause the problems you are describing…you can cut washer out or tape wires….. Tip : cut a small 4″ strip of electric/Duct tape and roll it on backwards w/ sticky side out… you can slide it under washer and then tape ends where it wont move…. I cut mine out….shoot me an email if you have any questions or need a pic of what I am talking about….and GHCpt.Gary Harlan (Harlo) USCG Liscd Fishing Guide Tishomingo, MS Roger Stegalls Professional Guide Service Sponsors: BassCat (of course!), Strike King, Falcon Graphite Rods, Gary Yammamoto Custom Baits
Also check the plugs for corrosion, if the ground pin is corroded you could loose it there too
Alright, please forgive my ignorance of wiring issues. After looking at my wires, it appears that the white wire (Im assuming thats the ground) is going to the bottom of my brake solenoid. I was expecting it to attach to the frame. I cleaned up the contacts really well and reconnected, but I still have the same problem. Should that wire be connected to the frame, or is it correct the way it is. Thanks. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
