Last year I installed a HB 597 HD on the front replacing Lowrance X51. I tied power to where the X51 was. When fishing, I could just leaving the X51 on pull up the trolling motor and on to the next fishing spot. My problem is that I can not do that with the Humminbird unit, if I dont turn off the HB, it “grays out” the screen when I crank the Merc. Only way to get the HB working again is take unit out of mount or cut the power at the consoles master switch. At first I though that my problem was my 7 1/2 year old AC Delco 24 series batteries. I now have a brand new Sears Diehard 34 series battery and it still does this. Should I run dedicated wires from battery to front or is this something I just going to have to live with, could there be something wrong with the HB? If I have changed settings on the HB for that days fishing I lose those and have to redo them, if I can remember them all .On another note, fished Pickwick yesterday. TVA had current flowing and fast all day long. Then the wind got up around 10:30. Lots of current flowing + heavy wind blowing against it = white caps. Glad I was in a Bass Cat to make that run back from around the steam plant to McFarland. Caught 5 nice smallmouths
