Im still trying to figure out how to repower my boat. Im wondering if I buy a new outboard and say it has a promo going with a 5 yr warranty, can I still buy a 3 year extended warranty for 8 years total? Thanks Andy

I believe that the best company to deal with on extended coverage is Mercury. If I remember this right with your 3yr factory +2yr extended coverage you can add extra coverage before those final 2yrs end. Last year they had Gold or Platinum coverage, and their was quite the difference. YES warranty thru Yamaha is very expensive, granted I think you can get that free now on Yamahas 4 banger, maybe the HPDi, but why get that when I think you have merc gauges and controls. I believe you can do that. But then extended warranties for most folks on anything are a waste of money. But of course, if you did have something go bad on your engine, after 5 years, Id guess youd be glad you had that extended warranty.

Im looking for a 200 either Merc or Yamaha. I will have to get new controls anyhow so thats not an issue. Im not in a hurry and was going to wait to see it Merc offered a promo 5 year warranty on their motors. If I can get a motor with additional warranty to 8 yrs I think its gonna be a no brainer. email is randy.frost68@yahoo.com

I stand to be corrected, but Ive traded boats every year for the past 10 years, and Ive always bought all the warranty available, so as to have it in place for the next owner, and it has never exceeded 5 years, total.This is Mercury warranty, from the factory. I think what you are getting is 3 years, plut two extended, in the optional purchase, for 5 total.Mike Whitten/Germantown, TN

The yamaha promotion right now gives 6 year warranty on the SHO.
