I was told yesterday by my dealer that the 200 HPDI is no longer in production so I had to upgrade to the SHO. Seems Yamaha pulled the plug without a whole lot of warning. This only forces me to do what I wanted to do in the first place but was too cheap. I really appreciate the way BCB handled the situation, cant say that I know of many others that would have done the same! They immediately called my dealer to explain the situation and see which route I wanted to take so there wouldnt be any down time on getting my boat to me! There is no doubt now that I made the right decision going with Bass Cat. Thanks again guys!
So your sayin you ordered a 2010 Pantera with a 200 Series 2 (Killer Motor by the way) and when not available BCB announced a Free Upgrade to a 200 SHO? If thats what you wanted AWESOME!!!!! I feel with what Flyswatter was stating the SHO is better than the Series 2 in performance and Oil consumption, though a 4 stroke typically needs more maintenance. I do know it may be a wash cause Yamaha HPDIs had alot of service compared to a Opti or Evinrude. Either way I think the SHO is killer…..Post pics when you can….Brannon
I understand the concern with more maintenance on four strokes when comparing them to the Verado etc but I would be willing to bet money that Yamaha got the SHO right…I know it is a different animal but when four stroke racing technology hit the MX world Yamaha led the way..Their motors werent always the fastest but they were pretty much bullet proof…..Yamaha stayed with steel valves for durability while other manufacturers went to Ti…This made for lighter valves but caused major headaches for maintenance on bikes like the Honda………Yamaha is a proven winner and leader in Four Stroke Technology so I wouldnt bet against them….(I have an Evinrude on my boat by the way just stating my opinion)
SelamCat,Cant wait to see your boat when its finished. Congrats!

Yamaha released a statement last fall that production would end at the end of December 2009 on the big block HPDI and only the small block 150-175 would continue that is why I initially dropped Yamaha from consideration on the new Puma I was going to order and at the time (prior to the release of the SHO) I was after much research on the two decided to go with the E-TECH over the PRO-XS. Then following the release of and the test results on the Bass Cat and talking to Ivan about his impressions of the new motor I ordered my new boat with the SHO and so far couldnt be more pleased
The out of pocket is probably to replace a price that may have had the Yamaha incentives on the engines. Yamaha has Retail Incentives on the 2 stroke engines to move them on out of inventory and if the dealer calculated that into the sale, odds are they will not be able to match that with Yamaha. The engine is about $1300 more than the VZ Series II model, though we are aware BCB has ponied up on two (2) and matched HPDI pricing to help the dealerships. Otherwise there are no incentives. The only engines carried on the sheet for 2011 by Yamaha are the 150 and 175 in VZ 2 stroke HPDI engines.
Good move on your part. Will help the value of your rig down the road. Bet BCB had a few left when your order was sent but ran out when they were ready for your boats production. Rumor is Yamaha has a plan for the VZ 150/175 HPDI as well. Possibly a new large block 4 cylinder 150/175 SHO coming soon.
