Eyra engine question

I was set on getting the P4 until the downgrade came out of the meeting this year. I believe that the Eyra is the way I will be going now. I am trying to decide if I need a 200 or a 250 on it. I am not looking for 80 mph speeds but also want the motor to not be under powered. Is a 200 enough motor to get the better gas mileage or will I have to push it harder and be just as well off with a 250?

The eyra was designed to run well with a 200.. I think it will run about 70ish from what I have read with a 200 XS. The problem you may have is resale. Most guys seem to want to have a bigger engine on a 20 ft boat. I would price the boat with a 200… 225 and a 250 then make your decision. No guy ever buys a boat and wishes they got a smaller engine.. if you put the minimum hp on it now… there is no turning back.

I have a 250 on mine. I would think youd get better milage out of a 250 if you keep your foot out of it. My Mercury gets excellant milage!

I have an Eyra with a 200. I could not afford the 250 at the time so that is why I went with the 200. I have no complaints at all with the boat or my decision. I can easily run 70 GPS with a tournament load. I was took a guy looking at mine boat with a light load and we ran 72 GPS. I think there is more that can be had with the 200. BC has got my boat to 73. The gas mileage is great!!My boat is for sale and the biggest hold back is the 200.You will hear a lot of advice to get the 250 but it comes down to want will make you the happiest.Last edited by mojorig on September 10th, 2011, 12:03 am, edited 1 time in total.

I took the downgrade as a good thing to make the boat more affordable. My understanding is the boat will come standard with fewer options which will lower the price but those options can be added.

Yes, it is not an Premium model, though is in the Advantage series now. You also pay considerably less for the Eyra and 200 than a 250 and fuel mileage is great with a 200. Hey, the only problem you may have with the 200 is resale. Not sure if it would be less attractive on the used boat market or not — just something to consider.

From my personal experience 200HP motors will be in the 70s with the Eyra. I routinely hit 72-75 mph with my Eyra/200SHO setup. With two people 69-71 mph in the cooler season and 68-69 mph in the summer season.
