Rivets

Although I have not seen the lids on a 99 Sabre, there is a good chance that they are 3/16″ x 1/2″ long all aluminum rivets. These are standard hardware store items and a good pop rivet gun will do the job. A good pop rivet gun is expensive so you will want to ask around and borrow one. If you live close to me you could borrow mine. I see now that you are in Minnesota. Dont guess you will drive down to Louisiana to borrow mine.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!

Hand riveters work fine the cast ones seem a little better but the sheet metal ones also work will take a strong grip

I just went to the Lowes site and see that you can purchase one for around $20. That will probably do the job. It says that it includes 4 rivet heads. Just make sure one of them is for the 3/16″ rivet. If it does not hold up to complete your job you can just return it. You will probably be ok with it. I also see that BCB has indicated that the 3/16″ x 1/2” is the correct size. Good luck with your project.When you push the rivet into the hole just make sure that you bottom it out before you squeeze the handle. That way the rivet will install correctly. I would practice with a couple of rivets before you start on your lids. It is pretty easy to do so you will be ok tackling that job.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
