Has anyone tried to add a louder alarm horn onto their boat? The present alarm goes off with the present boat horn and a much louder, shriller type horn could be heard by more people and probably scare any would be punks away. Can the alarm be hooked up to another horn?? Possibly a sound like is in a car!!BAYOU BANDIT
You gotta get that boat out of the garage for somebody to steal something out of it Sam !!! I have not looked but would assume this would be a pretty easy thing to do. Just got to buy the kind of horn or type you want, find a place to mount it and hook it up. Just take the wires from the horn they are going to and wire them to your new horn. Now you got me curious. Guess I am going to set mine off, find it and see what it would take to do this !!!!Joey
I found it. Not sure if they are all in the same place with every model boat. But is just 2 wires going to it. Depending on how big of horn you buy and I am assuming this is 12 Volts. You would have to buy another horn that ran off the same thing. BC, is this voltage pulsing and if so how and where are you getting this from. Might just be a horn that has something built in to make it go on and off like that also. Anyway, in answer to your question. Yes, it could be done !!JoeyPS: Sam, stick your ear a little closer to the horn that is in there. My ears are still ringing !!!!
I think a couple of pit bulls on long leashes tied to each side of the boat would work best.Isnt it sad the amount of vultures out there. If they spent half as much time working as they did planning crimes, they could buy thier own gear. But if you had pit bulls, youd have to find a platform to climb back on the boat.
JOEY, fraid to get it out into this crime laden world, Ill just sit and look at it and smile!! Im going to look into a louder horn, a lot of times at tourn. motels you have to park away from your room..BAYOU BANDIT
Sam, you find the horn and I will hook it up for you. Just make sure it operates on 12V. Would be pretty simple to do depending on how big and where you want to mount it. Joey
I added a car alarm to my PII. It was easy since the rod boxes were lighted. I set the alarm to sense a change in voltage at the battery and when any lid was opened the alarm would sound. I also used a motion sensor but found it a little too sensitive when left in a boat slip. A good wake could set it off. FWIW, if someone climbed on the trailer while parked on or off the hitch the motion sensor would set the alarm off, work perfect. Anymore you can get alarms that will page you if you want to spend the extra dollars. IMO, its worth it if it saves one rod and reel…
Just an idea. If getting stuff stolen is common parking at motels, why dont these motels provide a security guy to watch the parking lots. Im sure you guys would be more than happy to pay, lets say, 5 dollars a day for a security guy.Maybe its something to bring up to the owners of these motels who depend on fisherman to stay in business.
Security guys are the ring leaders!!BAYOU BANDIT
Ive always found that parking directly in front of my room, setting the alarm, taking most rods in to rig anyway, and walking out in odd hours with a .40 cal. in my hand discourages alot of snooping around hotel lots by undesirables ! Make a point to talk to the neighbors so i know, and so do they, what i look like and if someone else is seen around our rigs, well,,,,,,night fishin may be in order, with live bait ! Im really more concerned about my truck & trailer at the ramp while fishing ! D.
