Holeshot question

Quick question How does everyone store their tackle on their boats ? Heavy stuff in the rear compartments or put the heavy stuff up front . On my 2005 Puma I had a ton of tackle up front and the hole shot was not the best I was wondering if I should store my gear differently on the new Puma . Actually I should leave half the stuff home probably

wayne, I have recently experienced the same thing- 07 sabre empty wells, 1/2 tank, & myself planes quickly-very quick even with all holes plugged 175proxs. I did a tournament recently had a feeling before hand to put the 1/2″ hole plugs for ventilation, full wells 3/4 tank & brother in law= very slow planing. It probably wouldnt have planed with holes plugged. So to answer your question 1. lmore ventilation, 2. 23″ prop, 3. do you need a full tank of gas? 4. move some weight forward, 5. 175hp. I think your running too deep, got mine at 3″ below and runs the best of all the different heights Ive tried. John

That boat should run great with the 150. I think that you need to just get it set up right for a heavy load. It will take some time, but BCB and this forum will help.

Down here in LA. temps have been hot since May. This is what you might be experiencing now in your area. Load and temperatures will also affect the larger HP engines . So just because you have a 150, you are not the only one with this issue. I had to take out all the plugs from my prop to regain hole shot. You might try taking out one or two and see what happens. As top end goes, Im thinking, heavier load, slower speed and top end. Thats just the way it is with any rig regardless of HP. Heat will also rob RPM / HP / Speed. Glynn

It was the load, I would bet on it. Pull a plug and try that…you might have to pull 2. Not familar with setting up the 150 Etec but adding weight (even as little as adding gas and filling livewells). I always recommend when setting up a boat to set it up with the biggest load you plan on carrying, then it will only get better as you start lightening up. Judd Lasiter

You can remove a PVS plug to figure it out. You can dial it in with different sizes of plugs for ventilation. If the propeller slips as you take off, you have too much ventilation. In that case a smaller hole size PVS plug will help.

I am betting that it is the weight that slowed you down. I see it quite often. My Sabre jumps out of the hole with empty livewells, just me and half a tank of gas. But put a fishing partner in and fill the tank and livewell and the holeshot is considerably longer and I lose about 4-5 mph on top end. It still beats most boats on to the pad. You also have the FTD so it is a little bit heavier also. Try removing plugs as suggested and you might want to raise your engine just a tad. I am running mine at 3 1/4 inches below pad. good luck and tinght lines. ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud
