On the Mercury Pro XS, on a Puma with a Manual Slidemaster Plate, what engine mount bolt holes are utilized from the top down. Is it the #2 or #3 mounting holes!James
Either should do fine, though from memory we can not recall today which one is used? Since the R & R has the cutout, it is not critical. BCB
Ok. Well my next question would be: How do you test to see if the Hot Foot overtravel screw is preventing the engine throttle to be held wide open? Down to 100 pounds of total gear and tackle, 20 gallons of gas and with little ole 250# me, it still will only churn out 5850 RPMs and top speed of 67.4-67.8 MPH. The propshaft is at 3.5″ below the pad, turning a 25P Trophy. Yes a 25P, with large PVS plugs and a blow out ring or prop seal ring. It should be bumping the rev limiter or close. Could it be the 10% ethanol fuel. I have no choice, its the only thing you can get in Southeast Texas. Help me out here, Rick! Oh yeah, its a 2008 Puma DC, 225 Pro XS.And by the way, I love it! Picked it up August 18th from Rockwall Marine and I am still toying with the setup.James
Its not the 10% ethanol. I burn it too! If you want to see if the throttle is going all the way open you will need to look behind the black plastic cover on the front side of the engine. There is one intake there with a flapper. Have someone mash the pedal and see if the flapper is going 90% horizontal or more. Bass Cat is usually 100% on this. How many hours on the engine? Is it smoking alot?
Man that is tough for a novice on direct injection engines. Though at full throttle you can check the throttle stops on the engine. They will have stops you will notice when you advance the throttle with the cowling removed and when watching the linkage travel.Sounds like it may have a different issue. We would have to figure that out some. Though if you dont, a trip to Rockwall one afternoon would be worth your while. They would be able to check it for you and run it for final check on the reservoir there. BCB
I just read Sherms Instructions on Bass Boat Central! I will check the travel tomorrow. It has about 9.5 hours on it now. Its out of double oil, and the gauges have been recalibrated. The digital portion of the Tach is wrong though I think. I have consulted with Tommy Yetts at Rockwall Marine and he thinks the Smartcraft Tach is not synced up with the motor correctly. It shows analog WOT at 5850, and 5560-5575 digital. I am gonna get it back up there quick if the top end doesnt improve after a test Tuesday.Oh to answer your question: no it doesnt smoke really! Does for about 2 seconds when cranked stone cold, but thats normal!James
Well I remember that you said Bowdens in Atascocita on Lake Houston could help me with service if I couldnt get back to Rockwall! Would this be a warranty issue or a service issue? Who is gonna pay the bill?Lake Houston is where I have been testing, its 15 miles from my house. Rockwall is 240! LOLJames
Since you are close to Bowden, they would be able to give it a look. We would have Tommy confer with them as they set it up and could save Bowden some time. It is probably not a set up issue we feel. It is likely something else. BCB
What do you think it could be? Its ok, whatever your answer is wont hurt my feelings!James
