Any hints on how to do a perfect installation on a new mercury enginee cowl trim band?

Take off the factory black sticker that is on that area. Use a heat gun, or hair dryer to loosen it up. Be sure to clean off all of the adhesive left behind. Be sure the boat is in a warm area when beginning the install of the new trim. The corners will be the tough part, just your time. A heat gun will help you to be able to bend the trim so it fits tightly without any air bubbles. I had Sherm install mine, but I watched him do it.

Im about to do the install on my Opti. Read somewhere it is easier to remove the cowl for the installation, so I will be doing this indoors in a 70+ degree environment. Any additional tips for installation? Also, what type of solvent can I safely use to remove the leftover adhesive remaining after I remove the existing pebble grain band?Thanks

It is more accessible if you remove the cowl. When I installed mine it tended to want to crinkle as I went around the corners. As long as it is heated or applied in the sun, it becomes pliable enough to slightly stretch it around the curves and keep it from crinkling. Its really a pretty simple install. Before each piece its a good idea to hold it up and see the placement.
