Brake Dust

I have noticed this on about every disc brake trailer i have been around. I have had 2 cats both dual axle trailers and both leave a little brake dust. I think its normal washes off easy.

Yes it is normal on disc brake trailers.

Pretty much the norm. I can clean mine and after one or two trips they will have dust on them again. The dust is a sure sign the brakes are working.

I hope my brakes are working. I have very little brake dust on my wheels, even after a long trip.

Wow ,I have a 09 and have never seen brake dust,but then again I have a good tow vehicle with a light boat.

MAKE SURE THE EMERGENCY CABLE HASNT BEEN PULLED, MINE WAS AND BEFORE I FOUND IT THE PLASTIC WHEEL CENTERS WERE MELTED.

My tow rig works just fine, Dodge 2500 w/600 Cummins Diesel.The boat is new.Is there a release if the e-cable was pulled?It seemed to tow fine.I will check it when I get home tonight.The rear wheels did seem to have an excessive amount of dust on them for just one trip of 60 miles max and most were freeway.

I tow my Puma with an ľ ton truck as well. Be sure you don’t have the tow/haul engaged especially when running down hills. The way the trailer brakes work is on pressure from the coupler on the trailer ball. The engine braking on the diesel trucks can make the trailer brakes overheat if you are using it to slow the truck down.

I did have the tow/haul on coming down a steep grade for a short period of time on the way home.I would assume that this would only be a problem going down hill,it makes sense though that it would activate the trailer brakes.

I towed my new Pantera IV home today it was about a 60-70 mile trip mostly freeway.After backing it in the garage I noticed the rear wheels seemed to have alot of break dust on them.When I left the dealership the were sparkling clean.Is this normal? My last cat had drum brakes.What a nice towing rig,those torsion bar trailers are smooth and quiet.ThanksTim

This is exactly what it should look like if your running a softer comnpound of pads. Also the front brakes ingage before the rears. This called biasing the brakes. Most of your stopping power is with the front brakes so they engage first. The only time you would see the oposite would be a drag car. More sytopping in the rear but the brakes are only to stop you the parachute is what slows you down. Believe me at 205mph you rewally feel that chute slow you down.
