We assume a Pantera Classic, though what year model and what style gauge?BCB
Yes, its a Classic. 2006 with 200 horse Merc.
As for the style of guage, it is simply the round guage.
It is probably a simple plugged pitot hole in the front of the gearcase. If it is Smart Craft gauges, then you could tie them in to a GPS. If it is analog needle gauges, then it is definitely the clogged pitot. The pitot hole is on the front of the gearcase. Take a look on the front leading edge, and you should see it just above the lower nose of the gearcase. You should try to drill this out with a battery powered drill, and be sure to use the right size bit. Then you can disconnect the line from the speedo pitot at the engine, and use ari to blow it in reverse and clear the obstacle. BCB
Michael, when you re-attach the hose to the speedo guage, you will probably need to put a small cable tie (chichen band) or some similar clamp around the hose where it goes over the fitting and snug it down well.Otherwise, the tube may pop off due to the pressure when running WOT.If you run in very much debris laden water, the pitot tube is a hassle to keep open as it will usually continually clog with use.Dont take this advice form me but honestly, I let mine clog when I first buy my new boat and leave it clogged until I am ready to sell it. I then drill it out and have it working for my new buyer.I use my GPS for speed.Have a blessed day.AJ
We would disconnect it at the gearcase, and not under the dash for the blow back. The line in front of the gearcase has a small stainless connection, there are small collared sleeves on each end, which are spring loaded. Pressing that sleeve in will release the friction on the hose, and the small tubing can then be pulled out of the end you have compressed. Once you have cleared the trash, you only need to press the hose back in, and tug it slightly to reset the seal. Again, we would not remove the hose from the gauge under the dash. Hope this helps!BCB
Unless you run your boat in a swimming pool, youll probably get tired of cleaning out the pitot tube pretty quickly as it will get clogged almost every trip. Plus, almost all speedos read too high by 10-20%. When I bought my P3, The first and only time I cleaned out the pitot, I easily pegged the 80 mph speedo! So mine isnt useful for set-up adjustments either.
Thanks for the advice. The speedometer also does not light up when I turn lights on. Does that have anything to do with speed not reading. Thanks again.
The light is not associated to the speedo not working. This should be a wire or bulb out. You can pull the bulb out and swap this to check it. BCB
I have a problem with my speedo not working. No power to it and of course gives me no speed ratings. Any Ideas or HELP here would be appreciated. I really dont know where to begin looking for the problem. It does not light up or read speeds.ThanksMichael
are you sure the hose hasnt come disconnected in the gear case?
Have you cleaned out the speedo hole on the lower unit? I had the same thing happen to mine and it was resolved by cleaning out the piece of wood that was in the speedo pick up hole.
Just hook it into your GPS for the Smart Craft gauges if you have SC Gauges. BCB
BCB can you elaborate on above. I get tired of cleaning out the hose or pilot opening. GPS on graph is fine but I like the speedo to register also.
Yes, the wiring on your Lowrance or HumminBird units has an outlet cord that would be able to tie into the gauges on GPS for Smart Craft. Most dont want this standard, though we have considered doing it in 2009 as std. It is a tag line that is exposed. BCB
