Backup Light Issue

Hey BCB, one of my backup lights got full of water, so I ordered a new one. It came it with two black leads coming out of the new new lamp. Does it matter which one is hot and which is ground? I have hooked it up, but it does not work. Any ideas??

Check your grounds, and I know you had in reverse when checking light?

It should not matter on incandescent lights. On LED it sure does though.

I, too, replaced my backup lights with the new version. When I received the lights one black wire had a ground ring and the other had a male positive plug, just like the lights I was replacing. So, I hooked up the lights that way and…nothing. Checked power, ground etc., still nothing. In frustration I attached the light directly to my battery and still nothing. I then reversed the wires – ground wire to positive terminal and power wire to negative terminal…instant light. Had to cut and splice wires (negative ring to former positive wire, positive plug to former ground wire) and now everything works fine. That is correct on the new LED version, the voltage is directional in flow and they must be wired properly. Nice lights too!

Interesting that your wires had no connections attached. When I received my lights it was obvious that the plastic package had been previously opened. When the lights didnt work I thought Id been sent defective lights that had been tried and rejected as faulty. After splicing and reversing the connections I just figured that the factory had installed the wrong connection on the wrong wire.
