Over last year or so have seen most of you with Classics (200hp Optis)that are running with the Fury props seem to be using the 26″ pitch? Are you still getting great hole shot with the 26 as I have the Fury 25″ and dont want to lose the hole shot but am always looking for something that improves overall. I have 02 Classic and while hole shot very good (much better than previous 25 Tempest or Trophy) I wouldnt consider it great but I see your top ends with the 26s are better by few mph. I am 260# and carry fairly light load in boat. Are you guys that are running the 26 Furies happy with the hole shots you are getting as well as all around handling? Thanks
bob, I am running a 25 Fury like you. Ive tried a 26 tempest and had a hard time dialing it in with pvs plugs and top end wasnt great. I was also wondering about a 26 Fury bc the need for pvs plugs i hear is not really needed which would elimanate any frustraion with hole shot problems. I have an 09 classic and the best hole shot i had was with a 24 Fury but i felt it wasnt a steep enoough pitch. Went to the 25 and still good hole shot but feel i am still shy of top sped capability. I live in alabama with high humidity alot of times, although it hasnt quite gotten there yet. My unprofessional opinion is the hole shot will not be as good as the 25 but top end should give a little more depending where you run your JP. Havnt gotten my hands on a 26 yet, but soon.
If all the waters around here ever settle down will get a chance to try mine. Got over the winter but have yet to get in the water. I think BT is running one and a few others. Chris has experimented probably more then anyone with the PII which is the same hull but a few pounds heavier. Not sure he has run the 26 Fury however but about everything else. Idont run heavy and its not that humid most of the time on Champlain so I dont think the 26 will be to much. Looking forward to trying it out.
Bobsquatch, my best holeshot has been with a 25 fury no pvs plugs and it is a rocket out of the hull. The 26 fury I have had limited time to experiment with but will be the fastest prop for my boat. My holeshot with the 26 fury is good probably a little better than my 26 tempest that Im running now and Im very happy with that holeshot. Now, here is the kicker. Your motor being an 02 model I think is gonna be a 2.5 liter mine is a 3.0 liter. The 3.0 liter is gonna have a better holeshot and will carry a load better. Im not saying yours cant turn a 26 but you may want to try before you buy. If Shap sees this he can offer more info than I can on a 2.5 setup.Schodackbassman, I cant wait to see your numbers with the 26 fury!
Dont forget about Mark Croxton….that Razor3 is one BAD A#& prop for the Classic!
26 Fury (pvs wide open) on my 08 Classic rocks and roll out of the hole!!! Dont even need to floor it (hot foot) just trim down and give it quarter throttle and I can plan out instantly!! Also the Bow does not rise at all….I can plane out in a boat length and stay on plane at very slow speeds. 74.3 at 5650rpm is the fastest I have had it. That is with BassPro shops in the front box. I would dare say that 75+ light is attainable easily with this set up Bill
I have a 2005 Classic with a 2.5 L Merc and 24 Tempest Plus. What prop(s) will the 2.5 L Merc turn OK. Im looking for more top end. Currently running high 60s
Probably dumb question but how can you tell if the 200 Opti (2002 model) is 2.5 or 3.0 ??????????
if you have the serial number you can go to the mercury parts site and it will tell you
Just got response from Mercury re my optimax – It is a 3.0 so I would think could turn 26 fine but still not sure about hole shot?
