Dad and I have cooked up a plan since the OI was cancelled and I have the time off and need the break we are going to head down and fish these two lakes. We have talked about it for a couple years now and it just seems like a good reason to do it now. Any advice on where to stay would prefer water fron on either lake. areas to fish and are the lakes in good condition? Any opinions woudl be appreciatedJohnTreat everyday like it might be the last
Both are in good shape, but very low (8 – 8.5) from the drought. Rayburn is a little more user friendly since there are not as many stumps. Though you can get on a high spot if you dont know where youre going. As far as places to stay on the water…………………….not near as many places on SR as there are on TB. You really only have two choices at Sam Rayburn……………Sam Rayburn Marina or Powell Park Marina. I wouldnt consider Jackson Hill. At Toldeo Bend…………..Cypress Bend or Fin and Feather would be two choices. One word of caution, take all your crap out of the boat and take in the room at night if you want it the next day. The crack heads will rip you off! And that goes for both lakes!Fishing is great on both lakes and you should enjoy your time at either one! Good luck!
There will be the Big Bass Splash going on T-Bend the 20th-21st and 22nd so like Phil said ……. make sure you take your stuff out of your boat. Also where i live on T-Bend there hasnt been the theiving like toward the mid to southern end. You can check Newells Marina to see if they have a vacant room in their motel and it faces the main lake. Taking a big chance toward Fin and Feather area, they got hit a couple of months ago during a tourny. Regardless…. you can take precautions and enjoy yourself anywhere, just dont let your gaurd down nowhere anymore.
I had already told Dad we would have to clean out the boat each day, heard a lot of bad stories. I am not real interested in being part of the big Bass splash so it sounds like big Sam here we come.Phil and Iceman thanks for the repliesTreat everyday like it might be the last

Come to Arkansas and fish some of the mountain lakes which are full and the fishing is great now ! SR, and T-Bend are LOW, and tough………Id go to Greers Ferry and have a blast !
Mark thanks for the offer, it looks like we are going to switch to Lake Fork and spend 4 days there, I really dont want to be around the big bass bash and all the commotion we are just going to have a relaxing trip and catch a few fish.got reservations at lake fork marinaTreat everyday like it might be the last
luv2fish – i will be at rayburn since oi was canceled. ill also be gone before the big splash fun at tb. hate to say this, (hope no one goes off on me) but i have read of more boat theivery at fork then rayburn. google lake fork theives vs rayburn thieves. sad…just empty your boat at night. btw at fork, last year, with my black motor 6 feet from cabin door – a thieve raised my empty rod locker door, my bcb alarm went off and saved my buddies champion, parked next to it, from loosing stuff at 5 am one morning. this was not at lake fork marina. good luck. they have some biggins there at fork.Last edited by brewcat on May 9th, 2011, 11:03 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Kinda funny, my brother and I decided to try Fork or Toledo Bend. Finally decided on the Bend in a little over a week. Yes, there is that big bass tournament there, but I havent been there in 35 yrs, so I consider it a “bucket list” to do… Paul was there for the elites just a few weeks ago. It will be nice fishing with him as we do not fish but maybe once-twice a year.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
