I wasnt going to post this but the more and more I thought about it I figured Rick deserved me to post my experiences. My first thought 2 years ago when I saw the mold before they were showing the actual boat was WOW, this thing is huge and is going to be a pig like a competitors boat.I show up to the GAF and Kevin showed up later with the Jag in tow. I thought dang that thing is freakin huge. Luke even made the comment as to who parked a barge out front. Again my first thought is this thing is HUGE.Kevin and I head to the ramp Saturday morning and he assured me my impressions were all wrong. I didnt think he was full of crap but I didnt see any way in the world it was gonna do what he said it was going to do. We filled up the tank for a big 80 mile round trip run so I knew throughout this day I would get to see what this boat was all about.I back him down the ramp and go park the truck with anticipation of the big beast firing up and getting after it. I hop in strap the life jacket on and we idle out to the bouys. Well he hits it and this thing jumps on pad within the length of the boat and we are gone. First preconceived notion blown. This thing gets out of the hole faster than any Puma/Cougar I ever owned…impressive. We get down the river a ways and he gets on it and we are running this big ole tub in the low 70s and it runs like it is on rails. Second preconceived notion shattered…this thing runs like my 06 Puma that had a 225 on the back. The lift is quite impressive for this “barge”.Then we throw the trolling motor down and get to fishing…of course me being out of the game for a while I hadnt seen a Jag up close so I start digging thru compartments opening up lids to find that Rick has thought of everything. The tackle storage racks are perfect, the rear bilge has room for everything and still room for tools and extras you might want to keep aboard. All the way down to the passenger rod box (which I have always liked, even on the old Jags) which conveniently makes a mini deck to move from the front and rear deck easily. The storage cubbys under the seats are perfect…I like places to put stuff. The cup holders are perfectly located, the leg room is setup exactly to the point you can put your feet up on the compartment and stretch out or brace yourself to the glass section with the protective decal at the right spot. The boat doesnt wobble or wiggle at all…it almost feels like a dock fishing out of. Even while on pad I never reached for anything to hold onto the boat feels that stable. So I thought well this is all fine and good but can you get into places this thing is awful big. The answer is yes…there is very little difference between it and the big boats I have owned. I have been in competitors boat that is this big and it feels like a pig on the troller so I was really waiting for Kevin to catch a fish so I could jump on that troller for a little bit to see what it was all about. Well, Kevin can attest, the first thing out of my mouth was DANG, this thing is responsive to the trolling motor for being so dang big. You didnt have to plan your moves like you do in the competitors boat and it was impressive how it moved the boat around. This is a winner guys. I told Kevin if I was 10-15 years older and was still fishing this was an awesome ride and would be perfect. At my age I like speed…cant make one to fast. But having said that I seriously dont know how another brand is even selling boats with the Jag. There is absolutely not a single thing the Jag doesnt blow it away doing. Good job Rick and gang, nice boat! Judd Lasiter PS – Just to make it seem fair…I didnt like the troller compartment lid being curved. It took some getting used to stepping on and I didnt like it. So there was one thing I didnt like about the boat but the truth of the matter is if I was buying one I wouldnt be fishing back there I know you had to do it to get the foot of the motor in there so I do know the reason.
LOL, Told you so!Thanks for the nice write up Judd, I had a blast showing the “barge” off at the GAF. Wish I hadnt developed the oiling issue, would have been fun to run some 100 yard dash races Sunday morning.Looking forward to next year…. as well as helping take some beaks off in a couple months
Judd, your in by default and never getting out of the group! Your not a visitor so dont act like one. You just a prodigal son who has not returned home yet from your Benelli, Baretta & Browning click. See we did not even give you a hard time for those fancy ones we accused you of owning.
