Pre-Owned Purchase Scenario

Ok guys, here is what I am thinking “today.” Would you rather purchase an older (07-10) Puma/Cougar or purchase a (11 or 12) Pantera IV.From the start, I was set on the Puma, but after looking at everything and price being a consideration I think the PIV would be a great boat as well. Right now, there doesnt seem to be alot on the market, I”m hoping after the OI there will be a few more boats on the market.In case this matters, the two lakes I fish the most are pretty different in size. One is a big body of water and the other body of water is tiny. If I stray from these lakes, Id end up on Lake Fork. Id appreciate any opininos or thoughts, maybe there are some important factors that I have not thought about.Thanks in advance.

For me its hard to stray away from a 20 footer, but that being said its my opinion the P4 or P2 is a perfect “all around” rig.

I should add, I mostly fish big water though, Erie/St. Clair… Wouldnt hesitate to run a P4 on either body of water, but on high boat traffic days im glad to have a 20 footer.

Other things to consider: If plan to park in a garage, will 20 fit? Also what you have for a tow vehicle is a consideration. With a larger boat, there is not only the extra weight of the hull/motor but the extra weight for more gear that can be stowed, more fuel, more batteries, hence much more weight to tow. Have fun shopping, thats half the fun.

P4 IS LIKE A 20 FOOT BOAT. Its really a lot of boat, it surpised me.

Given the options you outlined…I would purchase the newer PIV in a heartbeat over the older Puma or Cougar. I doubt seriously that you would ever notice much difference. The PIV is an awesome boat. It may well be the perfect sized boat for most. It can handle any water a Puma or Cougar can handle…its just not as fast.

Thanks guys….appreciate the input so far.Storage isnt reall an issue….I have a 40×60 metal building….and drive a ford fx4 pickup…I think I can get a new pIV for $40k and might be ableTo find a 2011 puma for that….so heck….I still dont know, lol.

Im choosing the p4 when Im ready to buy a boat again in abut a year. Good luck finding one used also. Ive been looking for abut 6 months and have seen two that I can remember. Neither were within 500 miles of me down here near houston,texas. I priced one new the way I wanted it and can easily get a 2 year old LOADED puma for the cost but Im still leaning towards the p4. That boat just fits ME best and where I fish at.

The PIV is a very versatile boat with both large and skinny water capabilities. It took me almost 3 years looking to find a used one but with the help of Andy Greene he made it happen. The wait was worth it.
