Well I am sure all you guys have seen the new entry from Humminbird. They are now offered not only a 12″ but also a 15″ screen. I have been using their products for many years. Even had one of the old “bird traps” back in the 70s. They are getting so large that the console of the boats is going to have to be super reinforced to hold all the mounts handing off the side unless they make they about two foot wide to hold the even larger units. I just got new Helix units and one month later the Gen2 Mega is out. I think I am fighting an expensive losing battle. Just some mindless thoughts from N. Alabama.
I was going to post about this and ask who was going to be getting one…. or more? They look pretty sweet. I see the 15″ unit is $3500 which is relatively “cheap” compared to Garmins 16″ unit that Hackney has on his console.
$3500…WOW! Im glad I live around a bunch of cypress tree infested lakes so I dont need crazy big graphs. If you could get a Dish Network feed on those though I might be interested. Would help keep the family occupied so I could fish longer.2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
And the pros will have two of those on the console, one on the bow, over $10K in electronics alone. And of course a paid spotter in the passenger seat since the driver wont be able to see over those things. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
I personally never understood the huge cost differences to go from an 7 inch graph to a 12 inch. Were talking a very minor increase in screen size with the same software.A 52 inch television is 600.00!! What the crap. Its a total rip off. The Helix 5 Si has the same hardware and software as the Helix 12 yet you pay 1400 dollars more for a 7 inch larger monitor!!Yes I want one!!! But will never buy one. Not at those prices.
I was at Bass pro yesterday and stopped to check out the new mega imaging helix units. the 9 and 10 are the same size unit and the mega imaging 10 costs $500 more? Im sticking with my original 9 I would like a bigger screen and it would be an easy swap from the 9 to 10 but I just didnt see $500 of improvements. Ill have my 9 on the water Friday and I bet it helps me find some crappie.
The cost of any of these units is silly! Before long the average cost will be 5k.. we all know its just because folks run out and buyum! The sad part is the life expectancy of these units is not near wat one is to expect. The fishing industry is just out of control! 50k + for our rigs , 1500 + for our graphs, in many cases 10 + for lures. Geesh! Are there a stopting point? Forgive me for being simply minded. Before long folks will be asking wat kinda graphs you got. ” got me some 20s!!. Just thoughts. Though on reality its true and I kno its just the business.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
One plus to the size of graphs getting bigger and bigger, if your batteries run down and ya got no more go power, you could always pop those babies up and use em for sails and harness wind power.
These new graphs Im sure are very nice. But like most have said the cost is retarded. People still buy them though. If we all knew what it really costs to build graphs, boats, & the $18k engines, we would be sick. I still have an 898 at console, and 858 on the bow and have no trouble finding what Im looking for with it. I Actually feel “high end” to have what I have.
Or, put solar panels on the back of the graphs and turn em over to recharge you batteries!
