What is the advantage/disadvantage for boats to have a center rod locker? I noticed that BCB does not have any models that do have the center rod locker as an option? I like my tackle in the center compartments, am I missing something, it seems to be the latest trend in boats.

The only plus I see, is that rods can go in straight and not deal with the curvature of the hull upfront.

Wouldnt work for me. I tend to have rods on both sides of the deck when I fish. Youd have to move them every time you went to get some more tackle.

Agree with you PRobbins, I have a friend who is fixated on the center rod storage and wants that in a new boat! I keep asking him where he is going to put his gear to get to it while fishing???? I take my rods out in the morning and place on both sides of boat and never open the rod boxes until the end of the day to put the rods back! I really like the Cougar I have and he really likes it, but that darn R boat center storage is hanging him up and he cant see past it!

The only thing I can see as a benifet is that you dont have to bend the rods so much to get them in and out. This center concept would work if done from the get go. You have to make a narrow and deep so you have two rods wide but six or seven high. this would allow for tackle storage beside this rod box.

PRobbins has it right. The storages are then on the outboard of the boats deck. Every time you want a bait or item you have to move your rods as they are covering the storage. Plus check the overall rod locker storage on those models, many max out a 7 pr 76″. The reason they do this is a nice clean appeal of a gelcoated box that is not carpeted. BCB
