i am trying to help a friend who bought a early model pantera II with a 200 evenrude with a manual jack plate. this thing has a 14.25x 26 Raker on it and it is sick(really bad sick). he can only turn this about 4800 rpms. and it takes a football field to get this thing on plane. somebody please tell me what to put on this to get it out of the water. i am thinking maybe a 23 3 blade . Help
24 or 25 pitch prop would probably help. 4 blade will plane faster on most, but might lose a little on the top end. Its just trial and error, but it sounds like the prop is too large. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
This is too broad… We need the year model of both and the propeller he has. Has the engine been rebuilt and what is the condition of the boat? Then we may be able to help more.
first thing id do is measure the prop shaft height. the engine could be buried! he should be able to turn that 26 raker to atleast 5200 or so. may need to go down to a 24p raker.
we are going to try a 14.25×24 3 blade. and then we are going to try to raise the engine up, with a 8″ jack plate how far can i raise the propshaft past the bottom of the boat? thanks goat byars
It is not that simple… You need a 25 Renegade or Shooter on an older rig. Though we need information on what year model this rig is. There are many factors on big block OMC engines going back to 1985 we would be able to assist with. Though we need those years. Any history would help also.
well i finally got info, this is 1992 panterra II with a 1992 johnson VENOM 200 it has a 14.25×26 raker. the engine is in like new condition and the bottom of the hull is clean and slick. have not been able to check prop height yet. any help will be appreciated.
checked engine and found a bolt had came out from the reed valve plate and engine started spitting back between the 2 bottom carbs. replaced the bolt and carried to lake. with 4 people in boat this thing will jump out of the hole and he ha turned it 5300 no problem may have to go up to a 25. problem solved thanks guys for all your help and hope you catch a big un still looking for a steering cable for my 89 sabre think it is a 11 1/2
