Went thru all of this 1 1/2 years ago with my mom. A few years back we hired a very good elder law attorney in NLR to handle the paperwork and court filings. That made all the difference and our only concerns afterward were her health. One thing I will add – they need to name an administrator succession to keep the kids civil to one another, otherwise there often will be a power struggle. Parents dont like to take sides. Grown kids relationships can become sibling rivalries if parents dont express their wishes.

Oldest daughter worked icu and ccu for 5yrs as a social worker also with hospice and shutt ins. She has since burned out and now teaches Pych. for Empire Collage. She made sure wife and I sat down with her and younger daughter and made sure all wishes are in writting and wich daughter is responible for what. she mae sure we have wills, living wills dual power of att. dnr if this what we wish , this was done with good elder att she had worked with in social services. She said she has seen some bad family fights that has caused familys to take sides.So take the time to convay your wishes and be sure they are on paper and not verbal where it comes down to he said she said. We will all be called home some day.
