Fortrex or Maxxum?

I am getting rid of my Motorguide so I can get a long (52″) shaft Minn Kota. I dont really care about the lift assist, but I am in rough water a lot. I want a strong mount but I am not sure what the Fortrex gains are. It looks stronger, but I am really cautious about the quick detach feature of the Fortrex. On the great lakes up here, anything that is quick detach usually ends up being fish structure. Please share your opinions. Thanks!

I have owned both in 52″. The fortrex locks down tighter with clealrly less slop when you accelerate than did my maxxum. Have some folks launched fortrexs? Yep. But to me if Im fishin where u are and its 6 I see the detach as an advantge. Put the dern thing in a rod locker and move on! The fortrex also has a plastic insert that has been a nuisance at times. But would I rather have my maxxum? NO.C.O.D. Jr. III

Four Trex trolling motors are not lighter, they are considerably heavier than all other models and the older MaxxPros. They have been touted and promoted as being lighter, though the scales tell us they are not. You loose about 1 to 2 MPH with a FourTrex. Though it is a good troller. BCB

Well SMSBASS, thousands of Walleye Fisherman would tell you its the Baddes Troller out there. Unfortunately for me, my bosss Ego had him buy a 80 and 101 Fortrex, we will never sell these things, call me today and Ill check my cost plus shipping. I would go with the Maxxum. I have the fortrex on my 09 Puma and am replacing parts on the mount on a continual basis.

There is obviously more metal on the fortrex mount and the motors are the same. I already have bow lift and top speed issues with my boat, I dont want to loose another 1-2mph or more. I think the maxxum is the right way to go. Thanks for the opinions.

If you get a Fortex, make sure you install according to the directions. A friend of mine bought a new T-boat, and they installed it wrong at the factory. When he put the motor down, he couldnt raise it. Minn Kota replaced the motor, but he lost fishing time. I am sure someone on this board knows more about this, and maybe they can explain what Im talking about better.

Guys, Up here in the North we hardly even know Who Motor Guide is, meaning Everyone uses Minn Kota. Ive never had any mentions of the Fortrex being heavier than the Max Pro? I thought that was the whole point of making the Fortrex? Im going to get to the Bottom of this easily, the VP of Minn Kota Humminbird is 1 of my customers, so I will post exact weights and a comparison of the Maxxum, Max Pro and Fortrex. I know guys love their MKs and alot of guys go from MG to MK, I rarely read of folks going the other way, but who knows. Brannon
