This is just to let you all know what has happened and request prayers for the family. On Sunday my wifes nephew Will Davenport was killed when the canoe he was riding in with his mom and a friend overturned on the Erbie to Ozark section of the Buffalo National River and Will ended up pinned between the canoe and a tree that had fallen in the river. A number of people were in the vicinity and despite the efforts of 6 guys, Will could not be freed until a chainsaw was brought in to cut the tree. Will WAS wearing a life jacket but it made little difference in this case. Despite efforts to resuscitate him and evacuation by helicopter to the hospital in Harrison, Will was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. He was 6, just about to turn 7 years old. Prayers are requested and sincerely appreciated in the wake of this tragedy, and the family are definitely in need of such support as they are all taking it rather hard. As humans, God designed us to be able to cope with the deaths of our parents, but so not the deaths of our children. This sort of thing just should not happen. My father-in-law, Zed Davenport, being the facilities maintenance manager for the National Park Service on the Buffalo National River, knows the ranger that was involved in the rescue and who eventually tried to resuscitate Will, and he and the others with the Park Service who knew Will personally all taking it very hard. Others involved in the rescue attempts include several other floaters who were in the vicinity and a couple of Newton County Sherriffs deputies. So any thoughts and prayers offered up on behalf of Wills family should also include those unfortunate folks that are also horribly affected by this tragedy. Many thanks for any thoughts or prayers on their behalf. Sincerely, Darren King a.k.a “Deke”Last edited by djk3030 on May 6th, 2008, 10:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.Deke
Very sorry to hear this. Our prayers and thoughts will be with the family and friends. This is definately a tragedy that tests Faith. We will pray that their Faith will get them through. But, remember, now he is safe in Gods house. Bless you all.
To me theres nothing worse than hearing that a childs life was lost in a tragic accident. The effects from this emotional loss will domino through everyone involved. It can never be forgotten. The parents, family and friends will need each other now, more than ever. The rescue members will need shoulders to cry on too! My heart goes out to everyone. Im so sorry!!! Glynn
The National Park Service ranger who tried to rescue and resuscitate Will came to the visitation tonight and I have rarely seen a man so broken up. It was as if it was his own son that was involved. My heart really goes out to him. DekeDeke
My heart and prayers go out to the Davenports and all involved. A loss of a child is a great tragedy. All we can do is pray for God s perfect peace and strength that surpasses all understanding. God never promises tomorrow so we have to cherish every day. The world is an imperfect and sometimes seemingly cruel place. They may not see it now and, God never asks us to try to figure it all out but, in the end, the Word says———“All things work together for good to those who love God (Romans 8:28)” There is nothing anyone can say to ease the pain, only faith in the Lord and His mercy can bring us to a place of peace. Even in tragedy, there is a greater picture and a greater purpose in all things. God may work miracles, not only in the familys lives but also the Rangers life. This is much greater than our human minds can even grasp. I will pray and intercede for all involved! God will never put more on us than we can handle. Lord ask for perfect peace, strength, and protection for this family! God bless Chris
Deke, We saw where the youngster had to be cut free and really felt for the Mom. That would be a Tragic expeience from any angle and for all involved as well as family. No one can say much about such a young life being lost in the midst of family. That one has touched many folks already and the best to come from it is the caution it has now inspired. And it has.
Prayers to the family and those close to them. 🙁 TerryTerry Battisti
