Home › Forums › Bass Cat Boats › Looking to buy Detwiler Hydraulic JP for my new Eyra. What size setback is standard?
In hindsight I should have done this when I built my boat. I didnt think I would get the performance bug back but I have with my Eyra. In a major way too. This is a very fun boat to run, the performance is incredible, it fishes economically regarding 24v 80lb thrust battery power drain and lastly the lines on the boat are beautiful. Other then that I like it. Initially, I was hoping to power this boat at 70mph. RPs dynamic hull has impressed beyond my expectations and I want to find out the limits within the my 200HP power curve. What a fun journey that is front and center to me right now. I have some follow up questions regarding Hyd. JPs.1. Is six hole motor mounts standard on Detwilers JP for BassCat? If not where do I need to find BassCat specific Detwilers? I am evaluating all options for best price. Will consider demos/used as well as new.2. What is the preferred dash mount controls and why? There is no right or wrong just like to get your personal preferences.3. I have always wondered about this one. What does setback size have to do with boating performance. What is the difference between 6″ vs. 8″ setback? Thanks,FlyswatterLast edited by Flyswatter on September 6th, 2010, 2:09 pm, edited 1 time in total.
There is little difference in 6 or 8 inch setback as you have 20 of leverage out there and engine torque behind it. The 6 bolt plates are a costume BCB item to reduce transom pivot and increase support. The plates are actually longer. As for controls it is your preference. The slick set up is a toggle switch on the side if you use hand throttles and they like the stalk trim for most people with a hot foot.

I have not used one but from my limited exposure are thegauge displays part of this setup? How does it work?Last edited by Flyswatter on September 6th, 2010, 3:25 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Just a thought …Seeing that you are looking for performance, I would think that the additional weight of the hydraulic system will hurt performance. Plus, usually once you find the sweet spot there is little need to change the adjustment.Just thinking out loud… Good Luck with pursuing your goals with your new boat!
I do believe that the twin stalks are for 1.trim, w/hotfoot, 2.HD/jackplate adj. My Sabre was rigged w/hotfoot and came with single stalk. Since the removal of the hotfoot I rarely use the stalk if ever and definately prefer to drive with my left hand. John S.
Blinker trim on left is tilt/trim and the one on the right is hydraulic jackplate up/down.Also the non-gold bezel on the right side of the dash is the gauge for the hydraulic jackplate.
Thanks everyone for follow up and pics. I had a great day on the water yesterday staying above 74 mph on the GPS and enjoying the fist limited brisk signs of the upcoming fall. It was vey nice to be in low 60° air temps for brief period then back into the mid 80s. No complaining much better then the mid 90s up that has been stifling. I put the tempest plus to its paces yesterday. Hole shot blowout noticeable but feathered effectively via trim vs. my Fury and Vmax T1 props. Top end was very good. This is a stock prop. How much more does a Hydraulic JP weigh vs. a Manual JP? Cant be that much. 30lbs at most I suspect.
I would expect Phil to be pretty knowledgeable on the Detweilers and all the controls and gauges. Hopefully he will get on here and give you his input. If you have not been to his website….check out http://www.impactfishing.com and you can see a lot of the opitions and accessories that are available for a Detweiler plate.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
I put on an exact dial, and I would not use anything else. Yes is a little bit more but I like the idea of knowing your number and set it. If you need to move the plate, just turn the knob, and it goes there. this frees up your hand. I feel is a bit safer where you dont have one fingure on trim and the other hand doing JP. This is what Phil recomended to me. Eric
Are the Hydraulic JPs at Impact fishing customized for BassCat boats with longer plates and six hole motor mount holes? Great prices for sure.
