2005 Cougar outboard rigging

Guys I have had the hardest time trying to figger out some decent rigging for this boat. I have a hydro jackplate so I need lots of slack in the cables etc. I have tried the Merc rigging, Sunbrella, other and find nothing looks good and works. There should already be enough slack in the cable unless youve got a jack plate with too much extension. Bass Cat use to use braided sleeve back in those days.

Hey Phil, Its been repowered last year with a 250 PROsx and with it came an Atlas plate. The marina has had a hard time trying to clean up the rigging using the existing hole on the middle/top of the splash well. The Merc rigging isnt flexable enough to lay back there when the hole is in the middle and it rips the rubber rigging boot apart. I really need a picture to show you guys what Im talkign about… Let me see if can do that now

And that is likely why BCB used the braided sleeve. Mercury has changed nothing there for many many years!

Added the pics… Is there any clean solution out there ? My marina wants to cut a hole on the side of the well like other boats to get a good angle at it. Its a mess, I hate looking at it.

They put the braided sleeve on and my 96 Eyra has the center boot as well…….no problems. 96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Jignpig do you have a hyrdo j-plate ? Wondering because there has to be LOTS of slack in the cables to accomidate the tilt and trim plus the plate.

Back in 03 I had a hydraulic jack plate and had no problems. I will say that I dont remember how much if any slack there was around the boot. If I remember the rigging would slide in and out of the boot to some degree. I notice that you have something other that the rigging extending past through the boot and is terminated. What is that? Below is a picture that I dug up and as you can see there is very little to no slack which means the rigging slid in and out of the boot to some degree. I will say that your current rigging is very interesting!
