I just sold my Cougar Advantage Elite (great boat) with a 250 XS and down sized to a Sabre with a 150. Before anyone asks the reason why, storage, not fishing enough any longer, economy, just planning on fishing a few club tournaments this year etc…………… any way the Sabre does not have a jack plate. Will I gain anything by adding a jack plate. I actually owned this boat 3 years ago and bought it back. The boat handled better then any other 18 foot boat Ive ever owned before already but will I gain anything else? Thanks guys!

If it is just the standard Sabre then I have added one to my boat after running it for a few months with out the jack plate……. Pros: – will gain about three MPH on top end – the boat rides better in big water ie….acts like it is longer (which it is) – more lift – the steering rod would no longer hit in the splash well if the motor was trimed up Cons: – you will lose some hole shot – seemed like the boat handled better at low speeds and in turns I did change the prop (23 Tempest to a 24 Fury) very close to the same time that I added the jack plate. I believe that the jackplate was well worth the money for the difference in performance and functionality. ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud

It does depend on the year model how much any of this will be effected. The Fury also helped some of Elwoods speed. That we would consider first. BCB

On a 200 Sabre you can gain significantly with the plate, and the hole shot will be effected. Plus odds are that is an XR6 motor and that is better yet. The money invested is your decision and Parts had some scratch & dent plates or pulled models if your interested. BCB

Thanks, Im in the process of ordering a new set of bucket seats and will ask parts about the jack plate.
