Bass Cat, Im in the process of buying a Puma from one of your sponsored fisherman. He doesnt have any paperwork on the boat, motor, or trailer. Ill need something to title and register it here in TX, any ideas? Obviously you will need the numbers…is there an e-mail address I can send you this information without posting for all to see. Also, the warranty transfer will be the next big hurdle…is there a dealership in south TX that can accomplish the transfer and how much is the fee…gladly pay fee just wondering how much? Im taking a gamble on purchasing a boat sight unseen and I said I would never do that again after the last fiasco but I have heard great things about your company and Im always willing to take a chance on people. The last time I bought a boat without a test drive, I lost my shirt on it not running correctly and needing a tremendous amount of work to get the motor running as well as the trolling motor repaired (new and unused…yeah right)…not that Im still bitter just once bitten twice shy now. Sorry I digress… Any help would be great, Bear aka Travis Reeves ] (210) 667-5530Last edited by bearf15 on February 21st, 2008, 2:53 am, edited 1 time in total.
bearf15, We always want our owners to be happy! That is our ultimate goal. We are not sure whose boat you are purchasing, or the details surrounding that purchase? Every boat has invoices to the dealership and they should have produced them for the angler. The MSOs and other information is not retained here at BCB. We are sure that there is a paper trail somewhere and we think that either the individual or the dealer can help on this. In either case we will help as we can to resolve any issues you have. Contact our Service Department, or our Billing Clerk. They can help you and if we have the serial number we can track it from our end and figure out where things are. BCB
Travis, You will need the TPWD paperwork that you can print from their website. Here is the link: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/bo … d_selling/ TPWD doesnt have a great reputaton in the DFW area of being to helpful so make sure you get all the paperwork signed up front by the seller. Not sure what you mean by paperwork but there should be either titles on boat, motor and trailer OR Manufacturer Statement of Orgin (aka MSOs) for each piece. As far as transferring the warranty if it has been titled then it will be a $100 fee from BCB and the Quest registration here (http://bassboatowners.com/QuestRules.html links to forms at the bottom) and you wont have to go to the dealer for that to be done. It is good to start building a relationship with your local dealer though, you never know when you might need his assistance. Congrats on the new ride be sure and get us some pictures once you get her. Judd Lasiter Edit – Sorry, took a little while to get all the links right and had a phone call in between.
Thanks to both…the seller said he didnt have the MSO and he is in a non-title state. I have the TX paperwork in front of me but I dont see where the seller needs to sign. I guess he would sign the MSOs… Bear Looking forward to taking pictures of the boat to post
Section O on both forms PWD143 and PWD144 is where they sign and also break up the purchase price into 3 categories. Boat, motor and trailer. JL
bearf15 I did the same thing and had no problems registering the boat in Texas. We had a Louisiana dealership do the sale paperwork (needed for tax purposes) and the rest was pretty simple. Fill out the paperwork as much as possible in advance and make sure you bring in a pencil/paper etching of the boat and motor serial numbers so TPWD can verify the numbers. The trailer I had to register with DOT. The Wichita Falls TPWD were easy to work with and were happy to answer any questions I had. I was in and out of the office in 10 minutes. Good luck
Beast, How did you break out the boat, motor and trailer and the LA dealer thing…how did that help taxes? Bear
Bear We actually did the boat and motor only. We had separate “bills of sale” for each. The dealership (now not handeling BassCat) charged me $100 or so to do the paperwork. As I found out later, the bill of sale doesnt have to be anything fancy. All it has to say is “Bill of Sale” and what the item is with all the particulars (purchase price, serial #, make, model, length, color), Be prepared to pay tax on each (deductable on next years taxes). If you pay taxes in the state you purchase the boat, Im pretty sure you just have to pay the difference if Texas tax is higher. If I remember right, the trailer was considered part of the boat for the sale. I went to the local county tax office and registered the trailer and had to give them the weight and towing capacity. If you want to put the trailer as part of the sale, just list it on the “bill of sale” and put a price that you feel is adequate. Im not 100% but the state and county dont really care how much you paid for the trailer, they just want size and capacity to determine the “road tax/registratin fee” so they can give you a license plate. It would be worth a call to your local tax office in advance to see exactly what they need from you. It might save a trip and some undue heartache. Beast
Boat and motor go through the Texas Parks and Wildlife. Trailer goes through county (DOT) which you reside………same as your vehicle. Bill of sale can be one piece of paper with nothing fancy. Date and signatures are all that is needed. Itemizing helps. For instance: Boat 20,000……..Motor 10,000……….Trailer 3,000. Total value 33,000. Youll pay tax on 30,000 or .0625×30,000.
Thanks for all of the help.Im leaving in a few minutes to get the CAT…I hope the wife and kids dont drive me crazy on the drive. Bear Beast…I see your Avatar has a picture of an Eagle (the Mighty, Mighty). Whats the scoop?
