I have a 93 Pantera II. When I turn my nav lights on the lights work perfectly for a couple of minutes and then I here a click in my dash and only my front light turns off and a couple of seconds later it comes back on. The rear light never blinks. I checked the terminol block and everything is tight. I do notice that my volt reading showing at my dash is at 11.9 and when I turn the lights on it drops to 10.9. Any ideas or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Well, initially I would suggest that you test your battery. Your voltage readings are too low.I believe that there is a built in, ongoing voltage monitoring by your dash. If the voltage gets so low that the ability to start the motor becomes a question, the system shuts off all but the most necessary functions. That might be what you are experiencing though I am far from certain.Definitely start with the battery, though.

The thermal disk inside the unit that regulate amperage and protect over powering are opening and closing. The click is the relay they power in the dash as the power is on in the computer feeding the thermal breakers. It sounds to us like someone replaced a bulb with a more powerful part and you are pulling too many amps. The same will happen to your bilge and aerators when they begin to fail. People power them direct and they run, though they have corroded and are pulling too much power. Your catching them before they hurt something. It also could be in the ground connections and start at the terminal block on the transom to track this. Your rig is now pushing 25 years age and its hard to say what happened as we doubt your the original owner. We see all sorts of shade tree wiring on old boats with BP dashes that try to outsmart or fix a burned out light bulb or bad pump with wiring rerouting that was in good shape as factory OEM installed.

Last it could be a bad thermal disc and a good electronics or radio shop could probably install a new part. They are still available.

Thanks for all the responses. I believe I the problem was the battery I switched out the battery and now the everything works as it should. And even though my boat is getting some age on it has been well taken care of. And I really love the dash that is in the boat and as far as I can tell the entire dash is still working properly, not bad for a 93.
