Hey Bass Cat Guys: I got another call from New Orleans, and I may really need to take advantage of this opportunity if everything works out correctly. I love saltwater fishing, but I absolutely DO NOT wish to give up fresh water bass fishing or my 09 Bass Cat Puma. The only way I want to give up my Puma is to get another Puma or a Jaguar. How far will I have to travel from New Orleans to fish fresh water for bass? How good will the bass fishing be once I get there? I am afraid to put my Puma or Bass Cat trailer in salt water for fear of damaging the boat and trailer. I have another possible great opportunity in Johnson City, Tennessee where all of the water is fresh. I hate for my decision to be made on the basis of ease of access to fresh water fishing so that I can frequently use my Bass Cat, but it may boil down to that. If I move to New Orleans, I will probably live to a suburb north like Covington, La. While we are at it, which location would you guys select between Johnson City, Tennessee and New Orleans, Louisiana? Thanks, Corky
You would have great bass fishing in almost any direction within an our or less from Downtown. Examlpes are Venice 1 hour south , Lake Salvador and Des Almends 20-30 min west, Manchac 30-40 min nortwest, Bayou Black 45min-1 hour west, Pearl River 30-45 min East, Atchafalaya Basin 1 hour west. Those are just some examples of the more popular areas around, but there are many more areas that either I dont know the names of or they wont come to mind at the monent. Joe Fuerst Houma, La.
Tennessee has some incredible lakes that offer some great fishing. On the other hand, I like saltwater fishing too so in New Orleans you could bass fish one day, tuna fish the next day out on the oil rigs and then catch trout and redfish in the bay and then start all over again — except maybe have to work a few days in between – LOL!
Cherokee and Douglas are there around Johnson City. There are others though those two are the better ones. The fishing is a swap on these two. Nothing like where you are now as that Texas fishing can be the best. Sounds like your fast tracking on the way up there Corky! Decisions, decisions>? BCB
Thank you for replying. I really love where I am in Central Texas, and I would really like to stay where I am. Unfortunately, I am at my maximum pay grade at Central Texas, and I would be eligible for that last promotion if I were to transfer to New Orleans or possibly Johnson City. I am looking at both opportunities now. It sounds like New Orleans would present no problems for finding safe fresh water launches for my Puma or possibly new Jaguar. It also sounds like I will have to purchase either a Bay cat or Skit Cat for the salt water fishing. Geez, I am going to have to have a pretty good promotion just to afford all of the Bass Cats and garage space for the Cats required for residence in New Orleans. I will keep you posted as to how all of this works out. Again, I thank you for your help. Corky
Youll be needing at least four boats to live in Covington – bass boat, bay boat, small aluminum boat, and a small sailboat for kicks when it gets hot. From Covington, you can make a lot of good weekend trips. Red River Pool 3 or 4, 3 hours away. Toledo mid-lake 4.5 hrs, Cane River 3.5 hrs, Atchafalaya Basin 1-2 hrs, Caney Lake 5 hrs, Black or Clear Lake, Saline lake (in Central Louisiana) 4 hrs, Saline-Larto Complex 3 hrs.. I havent even mentioned the Mississippi lakes, and the oxbows along the Mississippi River in the eastern part of the state You can stay at my house for some of those trips if youll let me drive your BC. I think youll have a lot more choices of places to fish in under a 4 hour drive from Covington, but I dont know the Johnson City area very well.
is EASIER than finding drunk people on bourbon street. seriously. when the b.a.s.s. tour first came to new orleans about ten years ago now, the pros were calling it one of the greatest fisheries ON THE PLANET. they were serious, too.
Corky, I tried to call you the other day and left you a message. Give me a call on my cell at 225-715-9687 and Ill call you back as soon as possible. Chris Coupel Paulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
They also qualified that statement with the selection of water resources from fresh to salt water and brackish waters. Catching a bass on one cast and red fish, flounder or even a shark on the next was one anglers statement. That area is also subject to changing fresh water fish quality from hurricane impacts, such as has been experienced a few times on the basin out of Morgan City. No doubt that area of Louisiana is a sportsmans paradise.
I seem to remember something on a Louisiana license plate that said SPORTSMAN PARADISE. What does that tell you? Living in Louisiana will give you the best of both salt and fresh water fishing. Only drawback I see is the heat and hurricanes. Johnson City Tenn. is very nice but no salt water. Good luck on what ever you choose.
