Back in December, I bought the 2015 Eyra that was made for the dealer meeting (the Eyra pictured on the website). I am still in the process of getting everything setup how I want it, including trying a few different props. This boat is essentially an SP package with added options. It has the 225 Pro XS with the standard gearcase and the standard Slidemaster plate. When I bought the boat, it came with a 25 Fury and the plate was flush where the rails meet. As I learned to drive it, I noticed that when I drove it to its full potential, the Tach was reading 6100+. I was told by several people that the tach is probably off some because Ive never hit the rev limiter, but I wanted to ask everyone on the board what theyve experienced with their Beede tach, especially anyone who has upgraded to a Merc Monitor (which I plan to in the future). The main reason Im asking this question is because Ive found a prop that I really like, but I want to know what RPMs the motor is actually turning, because I dont want it to be lugging. The prop that Ive found to work best, most probably wouldnt believe me. Its a 28p Trophy with an Allison cut, two holes plugged, no cav. ring. Its not as good out of the hole as the 25p Fury, but still pretty good. It lifts the boat a lot better in mid range speeds, and is a lot more stable with less steering torque in turns. My best cruise with 1 person relatively light load, is around 4200-4300 RPM which puts it around 52-53 mph. I moved the plate about 3/8″ above flush on the rails, and My best run Saturday was 78.2 @ 5800 RPM. I know the water was only 50 degrees and the air was cool and dry, but to me that is absolutely HUMMING for a 225 and a power pole on the back. It dont feel like the motor is straining to turn it, but I really want to know what my actual RPMs are at that range.Any input will be appreciated, thanks!
All analog gauges have a range of variance from actual levels. They actually are extremely improved from those in the earlier years, though since 1993 MY BCB has had availability of digital gauges with 5 RPM and .1 MPH increments. That brought expectations up on analog and analog will never meet digital accuracy. They have moving parts, springs, motors, coils and more that have tolerance ranges that they use and are only an indicator, not a diagnostic tool. The newer gauges since the BP dashes,SC gauges and the todays era electronics are making expectations higher on analog and they can simply never achieve that accuracy. BCB
I would highly suggest a Merc monitor. If its not nothing but the basic monitor. Bcb had a few of these. They have Many advantages. Especially the ability to read water temp . I had beede analog tach. It was off a couple hundred according to my monitor which I installed in the speedo hole. The beede tach wentry haywire. I replace with a mercury tachometer I purchased through bcb. Personally I think its a more accurate tach and of better quality. I know beede got bought out and not sure how this has hurt the quality. For most accurate reading though I would install the monitor in the speedo hole. And keep the analog tach also. Though they make a Merc Monitor that read a variety of screens at once2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Redngoo, I have been planning on purchasing the monitor since I bought the boat, just wanting to make some other purchases outside of fishing before doing so. Although the motor is covered by platinum warranty, I still like the idea of knowing exactly what the motor is doing while operating it.I cant see this one being off by more than 200 RPM at WOT, and would assume that it is closer as the RPM are lower. When I do make that purchase, it will be going in place of the speedo, as you did.
Coosa, I definitly dont mean to sound negative in no way. I got a friend who cold seized his motor . Well it was wood in his stats. Stats was checked and proven to be NOT FAULTY. Just wood was preventing the stat to work properly.therefore he got basically shafted on his motor. Sad part was motor had less the 70 hrs. This is the biggest reason I have the monitor. I purchased the basic and it stays on water temp at ALL timesA long story summed up shortly. Needles to say when he repowered it wasnt a black motor. So for me Im watching closely at water temp.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
