I was taking the seats out of my Sabre this evening and found something a little disturbing. This is the second time Ive taken the seats out. Im referring to the entire bucket the seats sit in, so that you can see the gas tank. After removing them this evening I found that one of the gas lines has been punctured by the long screw that goes horizontally through the back of the padding on the passenger seat. This screw is extremely long and Im surprised to see how it cut the gas line. Fortunately it did not go all the way through, but it is extremely close. The question is what is the best way to seal it back up? Again it is not punctured all the way through, but Im anal and will want to patch it up for fear of it breaking in the future. Basscat, Im not convinced this screw needs to be so long. 2006 Sabre – JasonLast edited by jrmeade77 on January 30th, 2008, 1:53 am, edited 1 time in total.
I am not sure what this looks like, but there are only two reasonable solutions: (1) replace the entire line. If access is difficult-to-impossible, then (2) cut the section with the hole right where the hole is, and visit your local parts dealer or hardware store and find a straight barbed hose connector and two stainless clamps the right size. Use the barbed connector to connect the two halves, then use the clamps to finish the job and you will be good to go… patching rubber is near impossible because you need something that will vulcanize to bond, and you probably wont want to introduce a flame back there to get the vulcanizing done. One thing is that you do not want any sort of hole, not because of a potential leak since there is no pressure involved. You dont want an air leak that can make you run lean when you can least tolerate it (at WOT)… The barb fix is quick and easy if you have access….2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
As Old Timer stated, there is no pressure and there is probably very little to be concerned about. More than likely this is a vent line if on the passenger side so it becomes even less of a worry. If it bugs you, then take it to your dealer and have them replace the hose.
Can you take a look at these photos and let me know if it is a gas line or vent line? http://picasaweb.google.com/jrmeade77/Gas_line Thanks. Jason
vent
JRMeade77, It may be a vent hose, though we are going to ask for some intervention on this one. The only way to thoroughly correct this is a Replacement of the hose all the way through the system. You can pl;ace a barb in line as OT57 suggested, though we would replace it. Please contact [email protected] and discuss this with them. We at BCB do not consider this a minor issue and we would like to see a digital image of that area and the screw used to determine if there are other possibilities in boats surrounding the time frame of your boats production. We really would like to know more about this one in order to investigate it, and if more are found to inform others. They will want your serial number and dealership also. BCB
Whew, we do feel a bit better, though please go ahead and inform BCB Service of the issue at hand. The screw would also be some help and where you found it contacting that area. The hoses do appear to be fastened properly to the bulk head. Not sure on the screw contact and we would like to have that info. BCB
I posted some pics. of the screw location to the link above. It measure 2.5″ total and sticks out the back 1.25″. Ill call service tomorrow. Thanks. Jason
