In Missouri they dont care, you get taxed on boat, motor trailer, no matter who you buy from. Only saving grace is you can get credit for what you sold (car, boat, etc. subtracted from the cost of the new item and then you are taxed on the difference). But you only have 180 days (6 months) from the day you sell until the day you go to title and get plates for the new vehicle. And yes you have to have it in hand and not waiting for it to be built.
