I spent the entire last week on Toledo Bend and saw Cat after Cat running and fishing. Im sure a few of them visit this board from time to time. I would like to have talked to more of you but it looked like we were all busy trying to unlock the secrets of the Bend. I was in the Red and Black Pantera Classic. Well, it was more like red clay colored from a “shortcut” we tried to take to Holly park marina. We had another great trip for the Club. I was unable to find the big boys and only finished our tournament mid-pack, but, it was a great time and we all caught fish. Me and my Partner caught a lake limit of keepers everyday with our biggest bass of the week only being a 4 1/2 pounder. For the Club as a whole, we had 2 tournament stringers over 20 pounds and it took 38 pounds to win our 2 day event. Big bass of the week was a 8.42 pounder, and we had 2 others over 7. A great week and another great job by the Boys of Tri-Parish- Fishing Club figuring out the big bruisers on Toledo Bend. Every one came home safe and sound, which, is something to be said for the Weather we had during the week. Very Strong winds, Heavy rain and hail, not good combos on Toledo Bend. The good news is for those that are going to Toledo for Easter, You should still be able to catch a bunch of fish shallow. The spawn is not nearly over as the Cold rains and wind mixed the lake up again and the fish pulled off of the beds. The water temps we saw dropped about 5-6 degrees while we were there. That is even with the warm weather we had. I would love to go back, but, Probably wont make it until next year. Baits of the Week. Watermelon red, Watermelon candy Senkos fished wacky. Gold black , Chrome blue chug bugs, Ribit frogs. These seemed to be the most productive. Hope you all get to make a trip soon and be safe. Chris, I was there from 3/19 until 3/22. I fished Palo Gaucho flats one afternoon, 1 cove just off PG to the south of it, and mainly the Indian Mound area. I crossed paths with a man and his wife in a beautiful white puma and charcoal bolt in the first cove south of the indian mounds headed to housen. I played with one bass that appeared to be between 7-8 lbs. Shed get off the bed, then rush back in, but she never would pick up my fluke or baby brush hog, or rogue. And believe me, i tried pissing her off too, to no avail!!! I may be back up there this coming week, but that LOBI has me thinking, maybe not!! Glad to hear you guys had a great time. Hopefully none of your gang got hit by the thieves going around!!! Me and Mr. Browning were ready for them, if any shenannigans took place!!! Take care Ronnie
I was there in Patroon Creek allweek also. I think I remember seeing you. I was in a Gold/White Puma. I caught a boat load on Watermellon/Red Baby Brush Hogs.
Hawg Dawg, I do believe we talked briefly. Yall had 3 in the boat and we were cutting up a little. Glad yall had a good trip. We caught a lot of fish as well just never pinned down the big girls. Ronnie, I saw the same thing as you in the indian mounds. Alot of bedding fish that refused to cooperate. Still caught a few but it was very frustrating to be around all of those fish and not be able to catch them. I consider myself a decent bed fisherman. Couldnt get them to even look at a bait. No thieves for us. We didnt have any problem with that. Chris Coupel Paulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
Yes Chris that was us. I was in the back with my buddy on the troll motor when we saw you. Even though we managed to catch a few 5 lb ers, we did manage to witness the guy catch the 9.75. He weighed it on my scales at 9-13 (Rapala Hand Held) and Holly Park weighed officially at 9.75. It was funny, when he stuck the fish, he hollered to his partner, “get the net”. His partner casually stood up and started taking off his jacket. I laughed and told my two buddies that he must going to be catching the fish in his jacket. Anyhow, they were both leaned down on the opposite side of the boat when, the sow jumped on our side. We actually saw the fish before they did. It was a great show.
Shap–did any info pan out for you and the guys???????
lad……………..dont be giving out my fishing holes. Send everybody to Converse, Tenaha, or Huxley.
Hey Lad, Yes Sir. We caught fish in both places. We were just unable to find the 4-5lb bass needed to win the Tournament. Thats o.k. though. We had a ball and caught plenty every day. I promise you one thing. There wasnt a boat on the water having more fun than us. We did some cutting up for sure. Im still trying to recoop after a week of getting up at 4:30 a.m. and fishing to 7:30 p.m. then coming back to the camp and drinking silver bullets and playing cards till midnight every night. Our Tournament was won up on the 1215 area. We scouted it but didnt figure out that the fish were still out on the flats and not moved up to the bushes yet. When I get around them bushes I cant help but try to call them out with some Top Water action. We should have backed out to the adjacent flats and fished the Old water level. The lake came up about 2 feet right before We went and the fish stayed put where they were.Luke, Im going to ring you tommorrow and give you the scoop!!Phil, You dont have to worry about me wearing out your fish. I aint good enough to do that. Just having fun, thats all. Hawg Dawg, I bet that was a blast watching that big ole bass come out of the water. I saw the picture at Holly Park. By the way. I was the Taller goofy looking fellow with the Big Ears. I think My partner was on the trolling motor at the time. Shoot, now I wish we would have talked a bit more. Its a small world isnt it. I was out there and talked to several of the guys. At one time me and my wife counted 8 boats where we were at and then one came in that had to been built are the 70s . i had the blue and silver with the red outline bolt. Me and my wife fished and got into alot of 3-4 lbers one day, then a couple of days later when the traffic calmed down i caught some bigger ones. Like you said the big ones where hard to entice. Last Monday though they turned on and came up with a 9 and about 20 2 lbers. Good to see all the cats out over here. I live across from Holly Park and saw at least 4 or 5 launch from here but never got around to talking to those guys. There was a guy in a red and black cat that fished my bulk head . Good luck and safe fishing.
