I just got my new Cougar FTD D/C setup what an awesome ride, the boat is everything I thought it would be and more with an Etec 250HO. However I do have a couple questions, why the cumbersome Velcro rod straps on the front deck and not the retractable type (like boat buckles) that are much faster for tournament fishermen? Im sure there is a reason or maybe I just missed it in the options list can anyone help me out here? I would like to get them installed on the boat is it possible? Second does any one else have trouble with the battery compartment lid coming off the hinges, mine does not have a hydraulic lid holder and every time I open it all the way it comes off the hinges and is kind of a pain. Lastly my glove box comes open every time Im in rougher water (by rough I mean not glass) I cant get it to stop coming open. Anyone else having any of these problems? Thanks for the help Ill have pics up soon.
Bassman, The rear lid is designed to come off the hinges easy for rear compartment access when changing batterys and what not, so you can get it out of the way. The glove compartment is possibly just an adjustment issue and your dealer should be able to take care of this. The rod straps are what Basscat uses and in rough water on some of my other boats the quick bucke system has come undone. It may take a little longer to buckle down but when you get to where you are going you will still have rods. And last but not least CONGRATS on the new ride you will enjoy it as the Cougar FTD is an awsome boat. Tim Hendricks
Read this thread it will help explain. http://basscatowners.yuku.com/reply/15493#reply-15493
I have never personally had that problem but you are very correct. Thank you
You should also have a bungee cord (similar to the rod strap rubber bungees) that will keep pressure against the hinges and hold them together. The only time my lid has come out of the hinge is when I pulled the bungee and the light wire and pulled it off. If you open it from the drivers side and pull toward you it will come out but the bungee should hold it all other times. Glovebox latch needs adjusted. Sounds like to me it is not latching all the way and the latch or clasp needs to be moved back or forward, respectively. The other guys pretty much covered the strap deal. I never want retractable straps. Judd Lasiter
We have played with the retracable straps as recent as this week. They still offer some issues on slipping in that clasp, and they will release in rough water as we all have known. The rear hatch is a very nice convenience and the strap should be there to fit into that U strap on the lid. It probably was not fastened when you picked it up and you dont know what it is for. Take a look and see. The Glove box latch appears to have a component issue, check the insert of the lip on the actual actuator in the latch. These sometime split and wont latch well. Otherwise this is a relative first on a Glave Box latch not fitted right if you have one. They are pretty easy to spot here in assembly and check out. BCB
My buddy quit making fun of my basscat velcro straps that i swear by in sam rayburn 5 footers. He was fishing the Big Bass Splash and had the buckles . The strap actually broke from the fiberglass and he lost about 5 kistlers with revo stxs on them. Their in the bottom of rayburn if anybody wants em. lol
I have found the rubber strap it was broken in half, I will get it replaced and see if that helps. As far as the glove box I believe it is the BCB plate on the front the latch is attached to, it seems loose Ill have it adjusted when I get the new rubber band. Thanks for the help!
