I had a tourney today, and my livewells were not holding water. When I move the switch from empty, to auto, I dont feel anything. I kept moving it back and forth, but felt no tension. I assume the problem is either at the switch, or the valve. What should I be looking at? Im not sure which is the valve in the bilge area, is it the little balck “thing” with the little white armature? Any feedback would be most appreciated. I was bumming all day, because I had a couple slobs in there, and thought for sure theyd go belly up. I just ran the pump in most of the day, and all worked well.

In the very bottom of the sump / bilge youll find it. The cable probably became disengaged from the valve arm and preventing it from closing the valve. If you find the cable, youll probably find your problem. If it is still attached then your flapper inside the housing is probably bad. Good luck.

The cable can work loose in the clamp, plus a little oil in the bilge makes things slickery! Phil has pointed you in the right direction. BCB

Thanks for the feedback. I found the cable in the bilge, and it was still attached to the arm. I put the selector switch to auto and was able to pull back on the valve armature and expose the cable. I sprayed some silicone lubricant on it, and worked it back and forth a bit. The cable will move the armature when moved to empty, but will not move the armature when moving it back to automatic. I guess the valve must be too tight for the cable alone to move it. Does this sound like the valve is bad? In any event, I ordered a new valve and will change it over the weekend. What do you guys think?

When you get your new valve disassemble the old one. Sounds like something there is causing some blockage.

Phil may be right, though it sounds like a problem in the valve to us? Or it could be that the cable slipped as we mentioned, thus limited the full travel of the arm, and this is most likely. BCB

Where would I check for the cable slipping? I see it is attached to the armature on the valve. Is there another connection point I should be checking?
