HI, I have a 36 volt trolling motor and have a 3 battery setup. Anyone running this setup and what battery are you using for the starting battery. Wanting some info on Brand. I have heard the Optima is good. What about the Odessy. thanks in advance. Joe

We do not suggest Optima batteries in a Bass Boat. They are nice batteries for some uses, though they are lighter than we like in an AGM battery and the weight is longevity.

BCB Has suggested an AGM battery on the cranking side for almost 15 to 20 years now.

The Odyssey AGM are I believe the same battery as the Sears DieHard Platinum (now not offered). I can tell you from experience the DieHard Platinum was one awesome battery. I believe the Odyssey is quite spendy though.I have run the Duracell AGMs in my flat and they are pretty nice too, and reasonably priced at Sams Club.Has anyone run the Excide MegaCycle?

I am running a 36 volt troller so the starting battery needs the cranking power as well as the deep cycle. I have heard weight is important relative to the power so I bought a Mega cycle Exide and It was terrible and received a replacement and it was worse. They weigh about 73 lbs. They are rated for 100 ah but testing shows they were about 50ah which was disappointing. Lots of power for the trolling motor but as the battery dropped below 80 or so percent it would not produce the amps to turn the motor.

I run a 36 Minnkota and also only use 3 batteries so Im in the same boat as you. Ive been running 3 Sears Platinum AGMs since 2010 and they get the job done every time. Might want to give the Odysseys a shot.Good info on the Exides and I will avoid them when I am looking next.

Is there a battery outfitters close to you?I purchased new Proguide 31 AGMs all around this spring – very good and very common setup in the Table Rock area.BCB – battery outfitters told me that Proguide was now the BCB battery for elite and FLW boats. True ? or just a story?Thank you.

I run a 3 battery setup with the Duracell 31 AGM for my starting battery/ third battery, and it works fine.

The Odyssey PC2150 (SearsPM 1) is an excellent battery, but only certain chargers can charge them properly. Because Sears no longer carries them , you would have to get one from an Odyssey dealer. The Northstar 31 AGM is another excellent battery, and specs are a little batter than the Odyssey. The Northstar is available at Batteries Plus and has a four year warranty. I have mentioned before that if I ever went AGM, the Northstar would be in my boat.

Both the ProGuide and the NorthStar are excellent batteries. We feel the Odyssey is also probably a worthwhile AGM.
