Just got back from lake-When push down on hot foot motor acts like it does not go wide open-its acts motor is trying to smother out-it will finally get up on top of water but will not run but 4500 RPM wide open-check throttle cable but it is opening up motor all the way-had it on lake three days ago it did not do this-It is 2008 150 optimax-any ideas will help- thanks-John

take it in for warranty work. i know its a pain, but they will be able to fix you up a lot sooner than trying to do it yourself. could be a number of things and its no use speculating. One thing you can check though is to make sure your spark plug wires are all on tight. Good luck.

Your symptoms are very close to mine when I had problems with my pro xs. I had two CDMs go bad. Mercury CDM ignitions use a combination switch box/ignition coil, as distinguished from other capacitor discharge ignitions having separate coils for each cylinder. What ever that means! After each was replaced all was fine. Im hoping these two engines are related in design. Maybe one of these mechanical wizards will let us know. Glynn

thanks Phil and nelaCougar-Phil check sparkplug wires all tight-You can fill when you push down on hot foot motor is just not responding right-thanks John

Could be sparkplugs, same thing happened to me at OI and MERC tech changed plugs and was fine. He told me that when idling always tilt motor so that the back of cowelling is higher than front, this is needed on optis real bad. hope thats your only problem… SAMBAYOU BANDIT

Better safe than sorry on a situation like that. It is usually something simple and you could not have tweaked it up yourself. BCB
