Got the cat out today to do some testing on Pomme De Terre let me say it was ruff! I got just at 73mph at 5750 rpm with about a 1 foot rooster tail and 23@ of water pressure..Inner jack plate set almost a 12 higher than outside.. I raised the plate about 18 or so and lost speed and hole shot. Im thinking with 2 people and tourney load I should see 71.5 fairly easy. I am very impressed with the performance my p4 acts and feels like a different boat. Going to lake Ozarks tomorrow going to lower plate 14 and see what she does…. By the way the boat had over 30 gallons of fuel and medium load of tackle plus all 170 pounds of me! later, Earle http://www.knuckledownlures.comLast edited by Earle Hammond on April 1st, 2009, 3:19 am, edited 1 time in total.
WOW, so I re-read your post and you got 73mph GPS with a Pantera 4 and 200 Optimax?? If thats right, Oh my, my customer is getting 69-70maybe and has the stock prop that came with it, and is dying for speed, let me know your exact setup, Thanks, BrannonYour Signature …
2004 p4 2004 optimax. rite hite plate 6 inch. inner plate just under 1/2 higher than outside plate. motor is mounted on 2nd hole down. 25 pitch fury. This is just me with tackle and 30 gs of fuel. I was in the rev limiter hard I know I can get more out of it if its not so windy and I can mess with the plate some more. Boat only has a foot half rooster tail with no torque on the wheel. 69-70 is what this boat usually ran with tourney load with 26 trophy it was pretty consistant at these speeds. with full live well it dipped to 66-68 most time. Also I ran no vent plugs and the hole shot was awsome.
Now that is some good numbers, I am waiting on word to get mine ordered. I am also running the trophy in 26p and have seen 72.9 once, generally right around 70 with tourney load and half tanks of fuel. With a partner speed drops off considerably to around 66 (which i am not happy with) which is why i really want to try that fury seems that prop will carry the P4 a little bit better from holeshot thru top end. I will post numbers if I can get one in the near future. I plan on making runs with my set up as is now, then changing props to get a real world/time difference in the two props. I hope to have numbers like yours.
Thats some pretty good numbers Earl, I got mine on the boat and heading after work to make some runs. Maybe I might see you down at Ozarks will be putting in at Coffman fishing up towards the toll bridge.
tae fished the Big Niangua and the Glaze saw lots of basscats… Moved jackplate down from yesterday..Inner plate is about 1/4 higher than outer full livewells I filled with as much water as they would hold full tank gas and I put enough tackle to open a bass pro here are the numbers…71.7 mph on smooth water! Rpms 5700 – 5750 long straight aways gets into the rev limiter… water pressure is 23 – 25 psi and about a 2 foot rooster tail. this 25 fury is something else….. Earle http://www.knuckledownlures.com
Sounds like you are getting it dialed in. I had less than stellar performance out mine. I havent gave up, but so far the trophy is better of the two. Going to adjust the jackplate and run it again this weekend.
keep us posted with what #s your getting.. what year is your boat and motor? Try moving tackle around all heavy stuff behind driver seat. Im coming back down a week from Thursday will fish Friday and part of Saturday going to move more tackle around see if I can get any more speed..
Update: I purchased a 24 pitch because I couldnt get enough rpms out of the 25 and speed was no better than the 25 trophy. The boat seemed to respond to the 24 better, just myself and half tank of gas and all my gear I was touching 70 but the chine walk was bad. I need more seat time to master it, also I was never able to quite get full throttle because of this. Jack plate was 1/4″ above flush, I am going to raise it and run it again this weekend.
I was having the same problem of chine at wot. And what is did is raise the engine as high as possible without lossing water pressure. To be on the safe side my engine is 3.5 below pad and it worked. If you think about it the higher you put the engine the more the boat is going to be in the water and the engine is going to have less drag. I tried it on the river the other day and i was able to open her up with almost no chine and with a little practice and steering correction there was no chine.
