Beeping at High speeds

I see from looking at your previous posts that you have an 04 Cougar. I also have an 04 Cougar with a 225 Mercury Optimax. The previous owner had a 25 Trophy Plus prop on it and I was able to reach high 60s but my rpms got too high and I had a beeping. Thats why BCB is asking specifics about your rig. It will help to give you a more informed answer instead of pure guesses like Im giving you. Our suspect is low oil in the upper reservoir and a pinched oil line in the harness to the engine. Beep will be random and sort of in and out in that case. Just fill the upper reservoir to be sure thats not it. It doesnt have to be down more than 1/2″ to beep in spurts. The other situation is rev limiter as your 25″ might be a tid it small depending on engine height. This rig should run better than 70 with some caution depending on your skill level. RPM limiter may be and the 6000 mark and it shuld be labeled on the serial number tag.
