The Halogen Light on my trailer isnt working, and it doesnt seem to be the bulb. I tested the wires and no power was getting to them, and yes the truck was in reverse with the parking break on. 2004 Pantera IV, the trailer is the same year.- Chaz
Check the to see if there is voltage at the tow vehicle. If so, check out of each connector. Should be fairly easy to locate with a volt meter or light.

Didnt used to do that. I may have shorted something. I took apart the light last night and didnt get the plug on top in far enough. Thats the only thing I can figure now. Gonna check the fuses in the truck tomorrow. 2008 silverado w/ towing package. I also know my 5 to 7 adaptors (yes plural because I have an extra one) work because the brakes havent done this before. If its not the truck what would I check on the trailer? Or more pointedly where is the electric control for the brakes. Im thinking the toungue but I dont know what Im looking for.- Chaz
The brakes on the trailer or deactivated by the vehicles reverse light. This is a blue wire on the trailer connector and if its not the truck check power to the solenoid. When the vehicle is in reverse, there should be 12 volts on the blue wire. The solenoid valve is located in the trailer tonge which blocks brake fluid to engage the brakes on the trailer. My bet is the truck connector is worn some causing a bad connection. I have the same truck and my tail lights on one side dim intermittently going down the road. Which reminds me I should look at it tomorrow. Though I keep forgetting!
Phil – Got it, it was a fuse for the trailer backing light in the truck. Fuse # 10 if I remember correctly from the diagram. I checked the light wiring and its getting the proper 12v DC. I think I just need a new light bulb.- Chaz
