Replacement Trailer Tires

I have an 11 puma, it came with Cooper Cobras. Have had 2 blow outs and 1 got a big blister and had to be replaced. I live in Texarkana, less than a mile from Cooper service store, so I take my boat to let them look at the tires. The first thing the man said was ” I cant believe anybody would put a cheap— tire like that on a boat trailer “. The man said the Cobras are 4 ply tires. He said he had a 10 ply trailer tire that was cheaper than the Cobras and would last five times as long. He said to run 50 psi in the tires. My trailer pulls and handles so much better ith hard to believe. He said you need at least a 6 ply tire on any trailer.

I have cooper cs4 touring on my puma trailer. Says 1 ply nylon + 2 ply steel + 2 ply polyester. 2 ply polyester sidewall. Not sure what thats all about. The guy I bought my boat off of just put them on hope they last.

That may be the local tire shop that is a Cooper dealer, though not a presentation by Cooper. FYI Goodyear Marathons are standard on many trailers and 4 ply, they are the most popular trailer tire today. The Cooper company staff was involved in selecting the actual tire and we pay significantly over trailer tires. These have worked fairly well on BCB trailers with only limited issues. If we were looking at specific trailer tires we would consider other brands such as Maxxis. We use a Triangle on the standard wheel now and there are other tires available.

I replaced my coopers with coopers and always check tire pressures. I also had no problems with goodyears back when I had an “S” boat
