I have a 2008 Cougar FTD. Want to add two LED lighting strips to front deck. After looking I thought best way is to use the positive and neg wiring for the two factory front deck lights. Problem is they will stay on when master power switch is on. Does anyone recommend any kind of in line switch I could use to turn them on and off?

I rigged mine so that they are turned on and off with the rotating of the factory light. Though, my boat is an 04 model, so not sure if yours has the same light… you flip the lens down or up to make it come on… Now when you flip it down, the LEDs along the gunnel come on.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

That sounds ideal. So did you wire it onto the factory light post.

Why not put a nice Carling switch somewhere on the bow, either on the panel,or beside the trim switches. You could still tap power from those factory lights, but wire the strips in parallel and have the switch control them, but of course your master would still have to be on. I just did a bunch of interior lighting on my Cat, but I tapped power at the dash and put my switch there as well.

that is an open positive terminal in the center of the courtesy light.

So to make sure I have it right to hook into factory deck light I just need to add negative wire to existing post and then add postive wire to open post?

I purchased a on off on rocker switch for mine. Installed under console. Works great.
