Im looking at a rig with an 05 merc 200 efi 3.0l with about 300 hours on it. Can anyone tell me about this motors track record, longevity, issues, personal experience, ect. it would be really helpful. Thanks.
I have a 04 3.0L 200efi, had it about 2.5 years now. It had 75 hours when I got it and currently has passed the 300 hour mark. Other than routine maintenance ive had no issues with mine. From everything ive read the 3.0 200s are strong motors and well built. As long as the one you are looking at has good compression and youve had it looked over by a reputable mercury shop I think it would be fine. They can be thirsty compared to the optimax engines but I think that adds to the reliability. …more fuel means more oil.
I have the same motor and love the way it runs. You can take that engine to a merc dealer and they can hook it up to the computer and give you the exact hours and at what rpm intervals it has been ran. Also any work done to it by a mercury dealer should be in the history. I did this before I bought mine and I think it was about 50.00Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
Ive got that same motor on my PIV and it has roughly 170 hrs on it now. Runs like a top week-in and week-out, plus makes a nice loping grumble at idle speed.
Thanks for all the input, wasnt gonna have the motor checked by a dealer but Im getting it done this week. Hopefully everything works out and Ill be looking at my first bassboat!
