upgrading to a “newer” bcb have questions

I am looking at 2 different PIIs, the wife has finally agreed to let me upgrade. I have been running in a old 79 1600 VEE, kinda handed down through the family, and it was my first boat. My question is, is there any difference between a 95 PII and a 97 PII and were the johnson faststrikes a very good motor?

I see alot of FS running on the ohio river on board javelin boats, seems to me there was a point where the ignition pack/module was failing. I am not sure on the proper name of the part that was failing butguys were keeping one extra in the boat.

The only thing would be the decals were dome type on my 97 PII.I think the fastrike engines were pretty good, but Ive been running Merc/Mariner for years.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

thanks guys, growing up my dad was a big Johnson/Evinrude fan and my boat has a Merc, it is just hard to jump ship after the way my motor has treated me, the boat has been absolutley fantastic for a 30 year old boat, and if i sell her it will bring a tear to my eye to see her leave, but I need to move on, i need something bigger. I would love to have a brand new one but I would have to sleep in it when my wife found out.

Guys, the Evinrude Intruder, Johnson Fast Strike were LITERALLY the Motors that Merc and Yammie wished they had built. In 1991 it was So far advanced compared to its competitors, so much that Merc cryed Foul when the 60 Degrees were Mopping up all of their Black Tears!!!!! Go ahead and have the Motor checked over, their so good im in the process of buying a 1996 EvinRude 175 Intruder for my 16ft Checkmate. ALL kinds of Merc and Yamaha guys know this, and actually the 60degree OMC motor was Ivan from BCBs favorite, very reliable,very torquey, and Very High Tech for its time…..Brannon

I run Mercs myself but I know a lot of people still running the Johnson Faststrikes who absolutely love them. When they first came out they had some problems, that they fixed.

The Fast Strike and Intruders were a hell of a motor. My dad has a 1992 Johnson Fast Strike on his 1985 375V Stratos and it will still Fly. He repowered with it back in 1993 after the Evinrude XP died. I think that thing has 700 trouble free hours on it now. It likes the gas though.

My brother owned a Fast Strike for a while. It was a great motor. When he bought his BassCat Cougar 9 years ago he sold it to a friend of ours. That friend has used and abused that engine since and it is still goiing strong.

It has been decided and went with the 97 PII fast strike. Many different factors were involved and I love the Johnson so far, it is so much quieter than any merc i have ever ran, granted it doesnt have the speed a merc is capable of but I didnt buy a bigger boat to run around the lake as fast as possible. I now have an 1979 1600VEE that will be for sale and plan on listng it in the next couple weeks.
