Hello, I am the proud new owner of a 2007 PIV that I bought through Sherm who was great to work with. The boat is beautiful and in like new condition. I love the quality and craftsmanship. It is my first BassCat (and actually my first bass boat) and I couldnt be happier. While towing the boat back home 600 miles on I-55 I had a little problem with the tail lights repeatedly falling out of the trailer…not sure if this was caused by travelling highway speeds or maybe bumps in the road? Anyway, they would end up dangling out by the wires. I eventually had to pull over and re-splice the wires in a Wal-Mart parking lot, and then I made a quick fix by securing them to the trailer with some duct tape until I got home. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem, and if so, does anyone have any solutions? Thanks for your help, and Im happy to be a part of the BCB family, Jeff
Welcome to the family jrogers921. And no that shouldnt ever happen, at least not in my experience. There must be a problem with the rubber seal your lights set in or the lights were replaced by the previous owner and not set back in place properly. Someone will come here who can explain that better but Id think replacing those rubber seals might do the trick. Odd.Enjoy that boat. You bought from the right dealer, but you already knew that!Joe
There is a small lip that must be pressed into the fender, where it locks into the rear of the panel. It is possible the hole is too large, though we would hope it were brought to the dealers attention earlier. We also have seen the light pocket enlarged for easier installation and there is not a lot of room for error. Our guess is the light was replaced and not locked in.
This has happened on occasion to me. Sometimes the holes in fender are a little too big and when this happens, I will put a small bead of silicone around the cut out, replace the light and she is good to go.
Jeff, Im really sorry to hear that….The original owner never mentioned a issue with them at all. I would have corrected it if he had. I have had a few over the years that that have had simular problem from cut out a little oversized. As mentioned you should be able to use silicone to “glue” it in..I had one once that was way oversized and I cut a thin pc. (1/8″ I think) of aluminum plate to make a backer plate for the light…It has held up for years. Again Im sorry it happened and I sure would have “fixed it” had I known…..Let me know if I can be of any assistance…
Thanks for the info everyone. I will check the “lip” to make sure it is locked into the fender, and will try the silicone if that fails. Pantera296, the original owner may have never had an issue with this as I only encountered this problem so far while travelling a long distance on the interstate…if his “fishing holes” were only a short travel distance for him (as mine are), he may have never known of the problem. The areas I usually fish are only a very short travel distance from my home, so the lights havent really had the occasion to work themselves loose again since I have been back home with the boat. Again, thanks for your help and accessibility, Jeff
jrogers921, Actually if they are loose, the most common occurrence is pulling the boat out of the water, and the pressure will pop them out. If that is not the deal, then theft attempts, lips not locked and other items are issues. Those LED lights have been “borrowed” on occasion.
