Weve got a vacation coming up next week and were thinking about taking the family over to the Ozarks in Arkansas. While were there, we would like to stop by BassCat and check things out. Were in the market for a new boat and are very interested in BassCat. That said, does anyone have any suggestions on things to do or places to visit while in Arkansas. I need to come up with enough things to keep my two young sons (9-yr and 4-yr) busy while in AR. They love the outdoors and prefer a cabin in or around a state park to relax in. Weve checked out the AR websites but are looking for loding, restaurant and activity suggestions from local AR folks. Are there any local AR folks out there that can provide a few suggestions? Thanks in advance!!Last edited by wolfrvr on July 25th, 2009, 7:29 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Mountian Home seems to be a pretty nice town, with several good places to eat and some things to pass the time. We really enjoy the trip up to the OI and in all honesty if it was not for the drive we would probably go up to that area more often. The people are nice, prices decent and you can usually find some good places to eat. Both Mt. Home Movie Theaters are clean and reasonably priced. It seems like there is a fun park, minature golf place, if you like that, somewhere around town. Freds Fish House and the Blu Pig are pretty good places to eat. The Lake House is another good one, though it may not be ideal for kids. If you get a chance to head up North of Branson, you can check out Lamberts. I dont remember the exit, but there are plenty of signs and they are right off the Hwy. That place has some great food and they just keep bringing you more and at a fair price. The kids might get a kick out of them throwing the rolls. Also, there is more than enough to do around Branson, if you decide to head over there. It is worth going out of your way to go to Lamberts. The place does not look like much, but it is good. You could also head out to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home. It is several miles outside of Springfield. Back in Arkansas you could head over to Petit Jean Mt. That is a pretty area, also. Not to mention, there are plenty of places in Ar, to rent a canoe and float a river, depending on water levels. As far as places to stay around Mt. Home there is a Hampton and a couple other motels. As far as Mt. Home area cabins, Teal Point or Hummingbird are probably a couple of the better ones in the bunch and all in all are ok, though in all honesty, most all the cabin/resort places could use a little improving. (In my opinion, not that it matters, that is key thing lacking in the area. They need one really first class cabin style resort. Something that has a good access to the lake on smooth paved roads with plenty of parking room and nice stalls immediatly adjacent to the landing. It is tough to find one place that has it all.) Hope you have a good trip, you should be able to find plenty to do.
Buffalo River is always good for fun. Water may be low but can float some/drag some, and of course swim, kick around. Eureka Springs is a quaint little town has Thorncrown Chapel, a glass church in a wooded setting. Blanchard Springs Caverns is pretty cool(literally) too. Im sure others will have more to say including BCB http://www.silverruncabins.com/about.html This is one we have used for the Buffalo River.Last edited by jignpig on July 22nd, 2009, 7:02 pm, edited 1 time in total.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Fisherman74, jignpig…This is great info…Thanks!
If you going to go to Lamberts it would be close to 2 1/2 hour drive from BCB, might as well make a day out of it and go to Bass Pro Shops in Springfield. Lamberts is in Ozark at the junction of 65 and J. Be prepared to wait in line for hour or so on weekends, during the week I dont think its as bad. Lots of things to do over near Branson, Silver Dollar City, lots of rides for kids and crafts for the wife to see. Big Surf water park is a blast also located in Branson. You would be able to find some cabins on Taneycomo lake with good trout fishing. Just below Bull Shoals lake with good smallie fishing.
Next week is the annual Dealer Meeting and they always put on a great time. There will be all the new model boats on the water and ready for a test drive. Give the plant a call for the details. Check on Gastons Resort on the White River for some great cabins overlooking the water. Godspeed, Mark
After you go by Bass Cat for a look and visit head up to gasville its about a 15 min drive and they have a great BBQ place.
Up near Dover, Ark, north of Russellville (Lake Dardenelle). We used to stay in the national park ($5/nite for campsite) right on the river. Rental canoes available south of park. Theyll shuttle you up the mountain, and you can canoe right back to your campsite, or continue down the mountain to the rental place. Its been a while, but this was our Easter routine for ten years in the eighties and nineties. Cant wait til my kids are old enough to go back!
The state of Arkansas offer plenty from the area of Lakes Ouachita and Greeson right on up through the north part of the state. You can not run out of things to do on this trip. Just figuring out what to do is the question. The rivers are prime right now. They have run pretty well all year. You might want to take your family on a canoe trip, or trout fishing. Perhaps a nature hike along one of the National Forests. If you get into Branson that is a nice area. The Silver Dollar City park offers a fine amusement park for your youngsters. The go cart tracks and malls are great there as well. The Mountain Home area is a tourism area for the water and outdoor activities offered. A night at Gastons is a very nice trip. The restaurant is very mood generating and the antiques stretched around are interesting. The trout hatchery is a good visit, and the kids under 16 can fish in Dry Run Creek there. Barbless hooks only! Southern Missouri also has a few old grist mills at Dawt Mill, Zanoni and other areas. The Spring River area of Mammoth Springs (largest Natural Spring) offers everything from a river float to the visit of the spring. Blanchard Springs Caverns in Mountain View is a nice spelunking experience also. You pick it, do your research and tailor your week around what your family will enjoy. BCB
another good place to eat is the back forty in mountain home very good burgers and the 178 club in lakeview
