Hi guys, last year I posted a request for support and volunteers for our sponsored Fishing for Freedom tournament on Truman lake. It became such a success that we gained some major sponsorship. Last year we got started on this project a little late but still managed 36 boats and wounded warriors. This year we plan on 100+ fishermen and boaters. To give a little history the Fishing for Freedom program was born from a desire by the Leavenworth Bass Club to thank all veterans who came back from the Global War on Terror with wounds that need healed. We picked up the tab for transportation, food, and lodging. All these warriors needed was to get to the lake. This year we have the resources to pay their transportation, food, lodging, and take care of any needs they may have. I am again going to ask for volunteers that may want to participate. I know we got some of you folks to participate last fall and we sincerely appreciated it. This year it will be bigger and better. Right now our primary focus is on the current veterans from Middle East wars. We did have some Viet-Nam vets last year and we plan to fill any voids again this year. We wont turn away any wounded veteran. For those that may be wheelchair bound there will be pontoon boats available for their fishing needs. If you know of a GWOT vet that has been wounded and would like to participate please pass this along to him or her. Just because they are no longer in the military doesnt mean will will be forgetting them. The 2010 F3 will be held on Truman Reservoir near Warsaw, Mo, on Saturday and Sunday, 9-10 October, 2010. There will be a pre-tournament meeting and social at 4pm on Saturday, 9 October at the Warsaw Community center. A meal will be served. Participants will check-in at this time, link-up with their partners and receive a sponsor donated tackle pack. On Sunday, 10 October, a buffet style breakfast will be served starting at 5am at the Long Shoal Marina restaurant. While the dinner on Saturday will be on us the breakfast will be on the boaters and will be discounted. We will launch from both the Long Shoal Marina and Corps of Engineer ramps. Volunteers will be available to assist with backing down and parking vehicles. Trophy presentations and a raffle will follow the completion of the weigh-in. Following the presentations, we will have a BBQ lunch provided by Chuck Wagon BBQ. Please hang around and enjoy the food, drinks and meet the participants. If any of you can support this effort this year we would appreciate it immensely.
