Recent rains have put Lake Norfork up another five (5) feet over the 571 level we fished at last weekend. Generation continues even with flooding downstream. The level will pop a couple more feet and be within a few feet of the level we fished a couple years back. On the flop, We should have a good spawn if the level is sustained. Which will improve fishing in future years. It could have been more difficult than last week and had the event been at the usual time of year it may have been. Always a bright side to everything!Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on April 3rd, 2008, 6:16 pm, edited 5 times in total.
Not only will the spawn be incredible, but recruitment of one year old bass should be good as well with all the cover for the fish to feed and use in and around.BUT will make for a tough fishing season on Norfork until the water warms enough for the fish to really relate to the newly flooded brush en-mass ! I found the fishing incredibly tough for the conditions we faced last week, and cant imagine it being any better this week with even more water. Usually in my home waters the fish will relate alot faster to the muddy conditions, but those fish seemed to be lost, not knowing which way was up ! One jig bite all week, no lizard bite, and a few on a blade,,,,,,tough, but i still love lake Norfork as a fishery because i know what lives there and the possibilities, just like the big bass this year pushing 8lbs ! I feel for the folks effected by the flood waters and displaced families, etc,,,, Keep them in your thoughts, D.
???
spinnerbait was the most consistent producer and won the tournament as well. by the way, Toledo Bend came up 2 feet in a 24 hour period on Sunday/Monday. That too is a flood!
Do we need to start building another Arc ? 2 on 186,000 acres is catastrophic, good thing it was a tad low. D.
With the 3 1/2″ we got yesterday Beaver is now OVER its 130 flood control full pool by a few inches and has been for 18 hours. So theyve been running the generators full bore and have had to open the floodgates 3. So now Table Rock is back on the rise and has come up a foot and a half in the last 24 hours; quite remarkable since it it over twice the size of Beaver. Theyve been running the generators there full bore for quite some time now filling Bull Shoals, which is nearly twice again the capacity of Table Rock, and it has come up two and a half feet in the last day or so. Thats a massive amount of water! So ALL these lakes in the White River system could have much brighter futures, so long as the Corps cant succeed in its stated plans to bring Beaver back down 10 by mid May that is! I know they cant leave it at 101% but dropping it 10 during the bulk of the spawn would be painful. DekeDeke
And I hear we may get another 4-6 inches of rain Sure hope thats not true
Is the water about to go ovr the floodgates in norfork because i saw at the oi it was only a few feet from them. And i heard the corps. is going to let water out of table rock and raise bull shoals 30 ft!!! is that true??? If so this could be catastrophic but hopefully not.
Water can and does back up the floodgates so thats not a concern. Theyve been running all 4 generators at Table Rock around the clock for a long time now and Bull has been rising accordingly. However Bull has a massive amount of storage capacity is only at 58% of full capacity with 15 vertical height remaining. And Table Rock is only at 67%; so were a LONG way from catastrophe. The problem lies with Beaver though. Its at 101% and theres no upstream reservoir to control the flow into it so to prevent over-topping (the worst-case scenario) they have to have a certain amount of space available as its been known to rise 13 overnight. But that slack space usually means they draw it down right at the time of the year that all the fish start to spawn. Im surprised they dont do Norfork the same way; but then again this year that would mean dumping water down an already flooded White River making Newport, Augusta, Clarendon and Des Arc (all flooded) all the worse. 2 generators have been in use at Norfork since March 21st. They are keeping it flowing through to prevent topping it off. The level tonight was over 576.42 and the creeks and river are still flowing stained this afternoon from overhead visuals. Bull Shoals is at 680.23 last count and has ten more feet of space.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on April 2nd, 2008, 3:29 am, edited 1 time in total.
